Seriously why would you want put another piece of glass between your lamp and the plants.
Protected Mastercolor cdm already have two envelopes around the arc tube, that's why they're rated for open fixture.
If you're gonna put another piece of glass between your plants and cdm at least make the it the cdm which aren't protected and only have one envelope around the arc tube.
Last video I watched where a guy measured a reflector with PAR meter with and without glass, the difference was pretty slight actually. However, it is a good point you make. Perhaps I should use the other bulbs then.

Although my little experience with cobs is they have a very focused, tight footprint. Could be different depending on the build/ fixture tho
It probably wouldn't be the ideal use of the COBs, might lose a little efficiency or something. Still, I might sacrifice one HID hood and give it a try. I wonder what would be the best number and spacing? One COB in the middle and 4 in the corners? Or 3 or 4 in a straight line in the center of the reflector?

The single envelope ones are a bit cheaper too and emit a little more uv so a little loss is probably made up for actually.
Then again if you run unprotected open and one breaks over your plants doesn't do much for quality.

The guy with the huge 315 50k sq. foot warehouse grow is running the closed fixture lamps in open hoods.
How he's getting away with that I have no clue other than maybe the MED isn't too savvy with lights.
How do you know their not running open fixture rated bulbs?......that's a big no no if true, didn't even know a 315w version existed....

Ha.........haven't messed with CMH since the all-start days and yes the 860w is protected/open fixture

That commercial op can't be using unprotected/mh/cmh bulbs in an open fixture.......someone is misinformed, consultant used in a project that size?
Dude, I talked to the guy myself in his thread about it, that's when I found out about the single outer envelope ones.

Do you have a pic of the fixtures used? Almost all open fixtures won't allow unprotected hid bulbs to seat properly in the socket/won't fire up

This shit doesn't make sense to me.... ..need my computer! Ha

The socket is standard pgzx18 I believe it was referred too. Do you want me to post a link to dudes warehouse post?
I think maybe he doesn't even really know what he's doing is not right or maybe the t9 is open rated I dunno. I don't think so though.

The t12s have an additional letter to identify them, U/O , the t9 just indicates the U which would be positioning. The O I'm assuming means open rated.

No that is the SS 315 lec w/ built in ballast the SS 630 just doesn't seem to give the square coverage as the 315 hoods...I believe on the 630 you will get a good 4x3 coverage per the par readings and foot print charts...
How is that you have 2 315s on each side of the hood . I would assume ( remind you I am stupid to technical lighting info ) it would be easy to cover a 4x4 with decent coverage . Who has a legit par video or spreadsheet on these 630"s I'm tired of Mumbo jumbo ? I'm not bashing anyone sorry for frustration . I just want the sun system 630 under a 4x4 with par readings at 16-18-24 inches . Or close to that ... Damnnn whose got the info

Remember with the 630 there's also spectrum shift of +500 kelvin also due to running horizontal, making the 3100k run at more like 3600k and the 4200K at 4700k. Don't ask me for citation because I can't find it again but read it from a reputable source.
