some people aren't so lucky or fortunate as i was. but they want to work and get by on their honest check, and that's just not possible right now, although it has been very possible in the not so recent past.

Returning to the original subject of this thread for a moment, I think Bernie Sanders is at least looking like an alternative to the same right wing death spiral we've been turning with greater and greater ferocity since Reagan was elected.

We don't need to wait to glimpse the looming disaster in this country, it's already upon us; mass incarceration, militarized police, fascist governance, monied elite beyond justice, and greed beyond any excuse of earning it without corruption. A true bonfire of the vanities.

For all the screaming and hooting from the Right, I just don't see more and worse of the same being a solution.

As long as we realize education can include how to weld or wire a house too we should be fine. It's the thought that only learning who said what when qualifies as education that doesn't help. We are marginalizing trade schools and that's a big mistake. Learn how to weld in 6 months to make 50k a year or spend 6 years getting your masters in some liberal arts program to make 30k a year. People look down on that welder though as uneducated.

If one has had the good fortune of spending any time in a Swiss built (anything), they will see the value of a 6 yr. apprenticeship.

I certainly get your point, but just to throw in there, MOST craftsman trades are a minimum of 4yr apprenticeships. A lot of people never actually make it to journeyman, they end being laborers.

Aren't most of those apprenticeships paid positions? You can't say that about an Art Appreciation major. Journeyman is also a union designation that doesn't have the same weight in non-union states. Of course the pay is going to be much higher where it does matter.
