What happened to optic lighting?

It's hard to say..before I bought it, I was being told by other folks that there was no way it was going to give me performance of a 1000watt HPS.. even though the manufacturer claims it will outperform one in the designated footprint and recommended distance away from the canopy.

I was almost starting to believe the naysayers and thought to myself.. well maybe it'll be somewhere in performance close to what you are saying around 750 watt... but.. man I gotta say..

The moment I turned this thing on.. I was blown away. Floored with the performance of how bright it was. I had a buddy over who also grows with 1000 watt HID.. and he said ..."Damn that thing is brighter than the 1000 watt," and it does appear to be from just visual observation. I don't own a fancy light meter or anything to test it.. but I will probably pick up some kind of meter to take readings.. because I would like to measure it's performance along different areas of the canopy.

But I do gotta say this.. it is stunning. Can't really say much more than that. It's hard to describe how impressive a light is without data.. but I was shocked, floored. The power and intensity coming off of this thing. It's a remarkable piece of equipment with a big "WOW Factor."

I've seen the KIND and Blackdog upper end models that top out close to $2k... they don't even come close to the same level of amazing, nor did they give me the level of thrill that I experienced when I switched this bad boy on for the first time.

I don't regret buying it for a second. I would love to own 4 of them. Each at 4000k One on each side of my hood. Create the ultimate full spectrum grow footprint to help assist the plants in that overlap of HPS and LED create a fully realized cannabinoid profile.. as it was called by Clarke in his "Marijuana Botany Book"... bring out that heavier resin profile.. more terps.. louder, better bud. =)

Over the last few months the optics have been producing anywhere from .75 to 1.75 gpw depending on strain. 1.25 has been average. Buds have been dense and greasy to.

I run a homebrew Vero29 setup. 8 at up to 100w each. I'm at 400 now. At 800 it is very bright.

I'm using my 500 watt Vero to take care of some of the younger plants.. I started at 36" and gradually moved the light closer a couple of inches a day.. I am about 22" away right now.. They went from T5 to this so I am trying to make it as gentle a transition as possible.

Most of the plants it is tendering to are in smaller containers.. my buddy Jay aka Alphakronik's Cheshire Kush and Snozzberry, as well as Longbottom Leaf (private breeder) all from seed.. I know I am going to have some males to discover here and toss any day now.. they are just starting to show sex. I'll be tossing a few and when I know what I have to work with.. I can really start working on my canopy management a litte more. Under the HPS are plants that are quite a bit larger, mostly clones, mostly Apollo 11, and Apollo 13,

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a run.

Anything under 18" with the optic is a risk of strange growth and bleaching. The footprint is more usefully even and intense at 18 to 20 inches. This is a pretty brutal 120 watts!

I had a initial small problem with my light.. a simple one with the case latch on the case itself wouldn't close.. this started in the beginning of their transition period... they took care of me though without an issue.. It was when the phone line went down right when the transition started.. all of my contact was through their email. I wouldn't expect a reply on the weekend or the upcoming holiday however. If you email them today you might not hear back till Tuesday. But then again, I cannot be certain about that.

I was able to contact them through email and they gave me instructions and kept a clear dialog open... the new owner resolved my issue without any problems.

He did say they were switching "Servers" so the site going down is just a reflection of this change.

I definitely wouldn't worry about warranty related work. The owner was very professional and took care of my issue with no problems. They seem very professional and willing to step up to help their customers. I was very impressed by the way they handled my issue as well as the light itself when I hung it just recently. I am glad I chose Optic Lighting for my LED light.

I have one question on the optic lights - When hanging, is all the weight of the fixture put on the latch of that parts organizer bin drawer?
If so, maybe a latch broke - swung open - and sent someones grow and home into a fiery inferno kind of like a HB fixture

I have two 120's. The first one I bought at the beginning of the summer, and hangs from the lid -- all weight on the hinges and latch while hanging. The second one I bought towards the middle of the summer, and the connection points for hanging are on the sides of the case. So, they became aware of this possible issue and updated it. After the current grow, I plan on drilling holes and relocating the hangers on my first one from the lid to the sides.

You could just buy warm white 400w floodlights for cheap. Dunno what brand the LEDs are but they put out 100 lm/w so that's the same as Cree. Other companies make perfectly good LEDs. It doesn't necessarily have to be Cree. Philips and Samsung make very similar ones. You don't even need fixtures with fans in them, though you could stick a fan on them if you wanted.

That's very interesting.... Have you tried growing with these? I did my first grow with household CFLs, so I've always been open to the idea of growing with lights that are not specifically designed to be grow lights. I wonder what the light footprint of them is at various distances...

No I haven't tried floodlights yet. I was just looking for the most practical way to get LED grow lights and the floodlights turned out to be the best bet. They're more compact than high bays. Don't know what the foorprint's like. I'm sure it would suffice in a grow tent though. Only problem is you have to get them from China to get a decent price. You could just buy the lamp fixtures and put your own cobs in them though, but they're pretty hard to find. Again, you'd probably have to source them from China. I saw a price of $7 for a single cob one so the 2 or 4 cob ones would probably be about $10.

Well I just tried to shoot them an email myself.. looks like the entire server is down.. not just the website.. the email gets bounced back too.

You're probably going to have to wait until they clear things up on their end with whatever they're doing with their online presence. The email address was- sales @ opticgrowlights dot com

I know it's gotta be frustrating. When I received my light was when the transition started. It took a while to get a reply back from my initial email but when I did.. they handled everything perfectly.

The last word I got was that it looks like out will be about another MONTH before they get fully switched over. I guess I will hold off until then and use my old A51 light until I can get the Optic I want.

Oh, and he said that the 360 watt model has been upped to 400 watts, now! I think that might be too much for my little tent, so now I am considering the 240 watt model.

Hopefully, the hangers will be in the right place and the new 2.0 chips will be in place…the lenses and all the other little tweaks will be done by then. I'm willing to spend the money -as long as I get a really dependable and efficient light. Quality, longevity and durability are what I'm looking for.

Still, I will have to say that it's a bit frustrating that they didn't have all these switch over issues solved beforehand so that the transition would be more amicable for the customers.

Eventually, I will try to build my own fixture, myself….but not this time around.

that's the worst transition customer experience I have ever heard of. Sounds like there is some bad blood between the original owner and the new owner that bought out the product..

It also sounds like the new owner doesn't give a hoot. It takes five minutes and an agreement with the original owner to keep customer services running smoothly.

I hope that current customers are being taken care of ... for new potential customers I'd advise y'all to run away as fast as you can. The new owner apparently doesn't give a sht

I think I may just go back and get the Apache Tech AT200 all-white (6100K) that I was considering before. They have a great track record. Everyone says great things about their high quality components. And they have a 5 year warranty.

What do you all think about that? Would it be a better choice even at over $1000 dollars? I really need to make a decision. I'm getting afraid that I will wait a month for Optic and then it might still be fucked up….Everything they are going through now seems unprofessional.

I wouldn't say that at all. I was in contact with the new owner and like I said before..he was 100% helpful and willing to do anything to correct my problem. Speculating and insisting that someone doesn't give a shit or mentioning "Bad Blood" is kinda ridiculous. I spoke with the owner 10 days ago.

If the previous owner sold the company.. it is no longer his company.. your orders/products/warranties are no longer his problem. I would just recommend being patient as obviously they will be up and running soon. No one buys a company just to shut it down.

Them switching servers and phone systems, possibly locations.. these things are bound to take some time. I would imagine he wants to be up and running in business as fast as possible.. since it is a business. He's in business to make money.

The product itself is of exceptional quality.. at least mine is.
