so i learned this here but when i searce i cant find the post.

any way i have been using a 10.0 uvb light it runs in the middle of the day for 6 hrs, i have been useing it for 4 weeks now in my bud room with 400 hps wow. i have seen a diffrence allready.

it is virtical grow so hps is in the middle and my uvb it to the right. 6 plants on the floor and 8 plants on the second shlef about a foot and a half. 2 plants on each 4 walls.

so the plants that are on the shelf to the right have a ton more thcromes then the plants on the left and thefloor.

now i am going to move the uvb to the other side of the room, but i might need more then one. i am going to do some more trial and error.

is any one else useing this yet?

not yet, but was planning on it after I read that it tricks the plant into producing more THC as a type of 'sunscreen'. When did you start the UVB?

do you wear lots of sunscreen when you are around the UVB light? you should be VERY CAREFUL because you can get burns and skin cancer. but i have heard great things about UVB. how hot does UVB get?

It gets pretty hot. What I do is I use one 200w reptile sun lamp and rotate it over a new plant every day so they each get a little coverage. Yes UVB rays are dangerous but as long as you are not hanging out in the room for hours and/or staring at the lamp directly you do not have to worry any negative side effects.:blsmoke:

Right now I'm using a UVB reptile lamp with my other two t8 fluorscents (waiting on 400 MH). While I haven't noticed any major differences yet the plants do seem to be bushing out more; however, the real change, I expect will occur in flowering...I'll tell you all the details when I start in about 2 or 3 days

i just started using the 10.0 reptile uvb lights too - i got the CFL verson cuz i already have a shit load of aluminum reflectors... if you put one of those in a reflector it makes the uv reach a lot further... i found some charts on another site showing how strong the uv was from the light (in the uv index scale) and with the 26w CFL uvb bulb - it is somewhere in the scale of a uv index of 20 at 12" from the bulb... this is twice as much uvb as anywhere i've heard of on earth. I keep the bulb about 12" from the closest bud and try to get the lamp to shoot across the garden to hit a little of everything, anytime i go in there i clip the light to a different area to change the exposure. i cant tell if its doing anything yet, i got about 3 weeks of flower left.... dutch passion blueberry under 2K hps in a screen. the 1Ks are about 12-18" from the tops in vented tubes... and i got AC blowing into the fan that blows on the girls... soooon, very soon.

I started using a UVB light 2 days ago.
I'll be posting some pics soon. I've got a few places where the UVB doesn't penetrate. I'll take some pics of that area and the areas that are getting alot of UVB and see if theres a diffrence.
anyone have any info on the amount of UVB thats nessacery.

Here is a link to a video about UVB and THC. I posted the link in another forum but here it is for those who are interested in the topic. Enjoy

YouTube - THC, UVB and Me
That Video is Kick Ass. You Should post the link to Part (2) of that.
I never know so little of an amount of THC got you High.

Yah flowering is the time you'd wanna use the UVB. From what the Video
Talks about.

250 microwatts/cm2 is and average around the equator.
929.034cm2 in a sqr. Ft. x 250 microwatts/cm2 = 232,257.60 microwatts/cm2
232,257.60 microwatts/cm2 = .23211 watts per Sqr. Ft.

so we need .23211 watts per Sqr. ft. of UVB

ie: Reptisun 10.0 UVB, 20 watts, 10% UVB 33% UVA
10% of 20 watts = 2 watts of UVB
grow area 4x4= 16 sqr. ft.
16 x .23211= 3.7137 watts per Sqr. ft of UVB Light

our 20 watt UVB light would not be enough watts for a 4x4 grow area
2 UVB lights would give us 4 watts well over the 3.7137 watts that are needed.

i have a reptile store a block away where i can pick these uvb bulbs up
and when you guys say it produces alot of heat? like how much more then my 400w that im already running?

The 20 watt UVB I bought doesn't really put out any heat.
some of the plants leafs are actually touching the light.
It feels as warm as a regular flourescent.
$25.00 for the Retisun 10.0 UVB over at my Local pet store.

I've gone a slightly different route. I'm using 2 double ended MH bulbs in a reflector with no glass. The bulbs are 70W 10,000 K. 2 bulbs in the reflector with 1 600 HPS. 6 1/2 weeks into flowering. I run the light cycle at night for better temp control and to minimize my exposure. i don't go in the grow cabinet while the UV is on. i dose 30 minutes at a time 3 times per light cycle. results are DRAMATIC!!!! Had to cut back due to overexposure in the beginning. I would like to find out how much UVA and UVB is being produced by these bulbs. Definitely a potent source for UV.

so damn man i took a walk down to my local reptile and fish store and was so amazed as to how many different types of f*^&ing kinds blubs there are?
i found the uvb bulb 10.0 in several different styles
i have a floro ballast and light housing already that would fit the 10.0 uvb 24" tubes 20w a piece
and was curious would this be as effeicent then the spiral types.
i sholda took pics would have been alot easier
and the fish section had all these different kinda spectrum bulbs

I really don't know.
I would think they would be the same a 20w tube and 20w compact

I'm noticing some increase in the amount of hairs on my leafs starting
to raise. These are the bud site that are closest to the UVB light.
I've also noticed that the leafs turn a Dark Olive Green color that are closest\
to the UVB light.
I've also noticed that the Pistils that are close to the light are growing
like crazy. I don't know if it's from the 10,000K that the UVB light puts out
or what.
