I have a friend that would like to medicate his epilepsy with medical marijuana.

I don't know much about this.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thank you for your help.

I have a buddy that has been medicating his Epilepsy this way for about 15 years. I just couldn't get ahold of him today.

I'll read more about it.

Thanks!

I looked into it after a seizure, and it seemed there was a lack of info on the subject. One possibility was an increase in seizures which i didnt want to risk. Untill there is proof i probably wont try it as a medication. One seizure was enough for me.
Until someone experiences a seizure they wont know what kind of helplessness it instills. It isn't pleasant and makes you feel as though you have no control over you body. I still dont know why i had it or if i will have another, but i dont want to repeat it.

Hopefully with relaxed regulations these uses can be studied more with real tests and results, rather than hearsay and random unique undocumented cases.

Well i dont have any direct experience with this but from a pharmacological standpoint it can inhibit gaba receptors, which could lead to an increase in seizures. But overall thc and cb1 receptors help to regulate, being activated naturally during a seizure to modulate it.
The cannabinoids are incredibly complex. Not just being bi and tri-phasic. But many many modes of action, cbd acts on around 10 pathways not including those that are indirect.

I dont follow the norm in that i dont believe weed to be a cure all. There are reasons its not legal and used widely in the medical industry, its not ready. The effects arent entirely predictable regarding dosage and tolerance.
Thc could potentially increase seizure threshold, as jwh does (a full agonist more specifically hitting cb1helping us study those effects, thc hitts cb1 and cb2 near equally in comparison)
But cb1 receptors do also control seizures and regulate. And cb1 antagonism or in cb1 knockout mice, seizures arose.
Of the many pathways, some induce and some protect..sort of a natural maintaining of homeostasis

low in thcv and cbd
high in cbc
Most important High thc
Basically just avoid high doses

Rats rendered chronically epileptic by bilateral implantation of cobalt into frontal cortices were simultaneously prepared with permanent electrodes for longitudinal recording of the electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG). Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8-THC; 10 mg/kg), delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC; 10 mg/kg), cannabidiol (CBD; 60 mg/kg), or polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) vehicle (2 ml/kg) was administered IP twice daily from day 7 through 10 after cobalt implantation, at which time generalized seizure activity in non-treated cobalt-epileptic rats was maximal. Relative to PVP-treated controls, CBD did not alter the frequency of appearance of seizures during the course of repeated administration. In contrast, both delta-8-THC and delta-9-THC markedly reduced the incidence of seizures

I would make hash pills
To keep a more even level of thc in the blood and avoid dips and peaks that come with smoking
The lowest dose you can take should be taken, as with any med.
Ive suggested to take hash pills morning and night for all day coverage.
In general a therapeutic dose is 1-200 mg, i would start obviously at the low end, 300mg in heavy users up to a gram a day.
Making is fairly easy and they will store for a very long time even at room temp. And allow accurate dosing.

As for haleys thing, i can go into the cbd issue. I was hoping to avoid that topic with the study showing cbd to not reduce seizures, cbd has also shown to increase seizures by blocking thcs effect. Political aspects and gupta etc aside, weve been studying cbd for 50 years. It does have certain medical implications. However this is not really one of them.

"In some animals, CB1-receptor antagonism resulted in seizure durations that were protracted to a level consistent with the clinical condition status epilepticus. Furthermore, we determined that during an short-term pilocarpine-induced seizure, levels of the endogenous CB1 ligand 2-arachidonylglycerol increased significantly within the hippocampal brain region. These data not only indicate anticonvulsant activity of exogenously applied cannabinoids but also suggest that endogenous cannabinoid tone modulates seizure termination and duration through activation of the CB1 receptor"... cbd is a cb1 antagonist the opposite of what you want for seizures...

I just heard from my high school friend that @Currie and himself had a very nice chat.

He also said that you were the nicest guy.

Well done! Maybe you two will start a bromance?

What strain does he take and what kind of seizures does he have? I have partial epilepsy which doesn't respond to meds and frankly, the side effects of AEDs are too hoorible to live with so I have an appointment to get my green card (I'm in WA) and have heard good things about Charlotte's Web for epilepsy (it's a 70/30 CBD/THC hybrid (I think).
