I have a story of horrific racism.
I have a longtime friend that I met while selling cars in Northern Virginia. He had been a salesman for about a year before I came to the store. Prior to moving up to sales, he was one of the wash bay attendants. Like him, most of the people in that position are black and have limited education.
I worked the sales floor with him for about two years before I was promoted to sales manager. Never heard him bitch about my promotion once, probably because I had triple the sales of the typical salesman on that lot and had come from a sales management position in another industry (professional photography equipment). His wife (who is also black) was working and attending ******* college at the time.
I left the company to retire at age 36 in 2005. He was immediately promoted to sales manager and a year later, store manager. His wife started working for what is now ******* University in their admissions department around that time.
The car store was closed a few years later and he was looking for work, not in a huge hurry because they had decent savings and his wife had been promoted and was making decent money. He eventually took a starting position at a Sears store in the appliance department.
Fast forward a few years to the present. His wife is now running the admissions department, nationally, for ******* University, making around $130k a year. He kicked ass at Sears and is now store manager making around $60k per year. They have a beautiful home in a gated community near Quantico and a brilliant daughter who just got a full music scholarship to the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
Fucking racist country.
