Anyone used Kind LED lamps?

They have a 600w unit called the K5-XL1000. Not quite as powerful as the apache but the price seems much more reasonable. It's marked with a 5' footprint. I'm thinking it would rock a 4x4. They have smaller models that also seem like a good deal watt for watt as far as retail prices go.

There's a local grow shop testing one in a 5x5 tent. They'll be growing broccoli or some other vegetable but it should be interesting to see what the guy thinks.

Maybe so but it's got some neat toys all of which can be accessed with the remote. Power on/off with programmable timer. Dimmer with spectrum control and 8 programmable spectrum modes that can run in series.

Get a par meter and see your self. I have tested that unit at every max yield and canna event.
Dog shit light with a fancy digital display and remote dimming...well why dim if at full power it can hang with a Apollo.
Their display at the show even had a fan out. I have pics on page 2 of my gg's garden thread.

What make a good performing light is not rocket science. Par meters are hard to hide anything from.

What brand of diodes does Kind use? Epiwhatever? Cree? Osram?

The last time I looked they didn't mention what they use. Considering the price they charge and the amount of hype on their web site, I concluded that if it was something to brag about they would. The fact that they weren't bragging about it, I would assume epiwhatever diodes.

Basically a rebranded chinese import sold at a premium. For the same price you could get efficient LEDs and a lifetime warranty from Area51.

I'm sure it will grow well. It's just that you'll have to run 30% more watts, generate more heat. And, sadly, you can do that for much less with a MarsHydro. At least with those you get your money's worth. With Kind (Lush, HydroGrowLED, Blackdog, GrowBlu, PlatinumLED) you don't.

Guess you guys are right. No mention of emitter brand. Will be interesting to see what the hydro guy thinks about them. He's tested several brands and hasn't been happy with any of them. I floated the A51 brand to him, but from his perspective it's probably one brand in a sea of LEDs.

There are "personalities" on the internet that push Kind, Lush, et. al. I don't think they're inexperienced nor gullible. I just think they just enjoy their "personality" status. Those lights are "mainstream." A lot of people buy them on speculation. If you want to be a "personality" you don't want to alienate the mainstream. You also want to look like a team player within the themed, over-priced stuff sold to MJ growers.

For example, if whoever "the hydro guy" is said Kind is just a rebranded epi-whatever light, he probably won't get any more lights to evaluate from what passes as mainstream in the cannabis community. Might not get boutique nutrient "lineups" to evaluate.

A lot of this stuff is about playing the game.

My hydro store guy depicts himself that way. He doesn't sell LEDs because of alot of the bogus stuff out there. But, he's selling an epi-whatever light right now and when I began to say something about epi-whatevers, efficiency, etc., he had other things to do.

I don't doubt it, there's money to be made from pot growers for sure. But those kind/Apollo/cidly panels are like $150 wholesale even with a custom spectrum. And they retail for $350-500. Money makers!

They do ok, I've got an older Apollo 8 alongside my area51s. It adds a little heat, which is welcome in the winter . Its lasted almost 2 years no problems. Inefficient, but not garbage.
