New light, back then , with discount…about $450~

And, yes, I know that I would have been willing to pay $450 back in the day, when the prices were high.
You're comparing apples to oranges. You keep giving the discounted price back then compared to today's price. You're not paying more.

But then you say you would have bought a discontinued light at a further discount. You can still buy discounted lights at a further discount. They are priced relative to today's discounted price.

If I am misunderstanding, please tell me how much a light would cost back then (with the discount) compared to today's price. How much more are you spending?

I asked this question and the answer was: you're not spending more -- but then proceed to compare today's price to end-of-year clearance items. Let's pick one or the other to compare.

So you are or aren't the owner of Platinum?
I don't think she is. She didn't (and still doesn't) seem to be aware of what's on the PlatinumLED web site. Also didn't seem to be familiar with AdvancedLED (which Platinum tries to be a name rip-off of).

I'm NOT referring to CLEARANCE items. I am referring to the GENERAL prices that were lowered…the GENERAL price list of the THEN-AVAILABLE inventory.

I am referring to the additional discount that was separate from the general discount and was only applied to new orders from returning customers.

What you are misunderstanding is that you call his general prices as being "discounted already". But that's not what I am referring to. A returning-customer discount is/was supposed to be separate from any other discounts -regardless of what the general prices are listed at. It was supposed to be IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER DISCOUNTS. That's the whole ida behind a returning-customer discount. Rather than honoring that, he just abolished the policy and lowered his general prices.

Think of my return customer discount as a $50 dollar bill that Jeff gave me….

I have it in my pocket…

I want to use that $50 bill to help buy a new (to me) light that I've had my eye on for awhile….

One day, I see that the prices have gone way down on the very models I am interested in purchasing…

I go to place my order…

I pull out my $50 bill that he gave me to use...

That $50 is no good…

I think that's sketchy. That's all I've ever said in criticism of Area51. Everything else I agree is top notch. Great lights! But just not great enough to compensate for worrisome business practices…not for me, anyway.

Here's what you said a few posts above:

New light, back then , with discount…about $450~

Same light, with general pricing discount, at it's lowest point (that I know of)…about $400
You're not losing money. You're getting a light today for as much (or less) than you expected back then. Logically, the only thing you're upset about is that everyone else gets the light for the same price.

What I didn't understand was in the same post you proceeded to say "but..." and something about how you'd buy end-of-year clearance lights at a lower price than today's general (no gimmicks) price.

You're not paying anything more than you expected. The only thing that changed is that they don't use a frequent-flier program to get the prices.

It's as simple as this:

Regardless of any other aspect, the returning-customer discount was advertised as being in addition to any other discounts.

He gave me $50 to spend and then said that the $50 was no good. -simple as that. There was no timeframe that I had to beat in order to get the discount.

And, btw, Imoore2680, it was for a 2013 model that was still available as general inventory in 2014 -models hadn't changed, so wtf difference does timespan have to do with anything? It was the same damn light! LOL @ you.

As explained in 10 mobile pages his lights are great, stock sucks and tstick and Dogknot are not happy. Did I miss something? I thought this was about a W100 not being in stock or offered Y the need for so much hate?

Thank you. I keep clicking this thread thinking I'll see something useful and all I'm seeing is @tstick mad because he's saving more now than he would have if Jeff left the price alone and honored the discount. L O effing L.

Nah, man, You're just unable to comprehend a simple concept of social human life known as honor. L O effing L.

Jeff would have lowered his general prices, anyway. It wasn't any "sale" . The fact that he lowered his general prices just reflects the fact that prices on this technology, in general, are going down. All I wanted to do was spend the $50 he gave me to spend. First-tiem customers didn't get $50 to spend…but, at the end of it all, neither did I. So that's fair and honorable?

*edit* I can offer my anecdotal information to a thread that refers to a company that I did business with. That's what a discussion forum is for. The fact that the W100 is/isn't available could/should have been settled a long time ago in this thread. This aspect of the discussion is something that came up as an aside. It happens all the time in discussions. Don't panic!

Tstick's issue was covered on the Area 51 FAQs. He's just being greedy.

Q: What happened to the repeat customer discounts and coupon codes?
A: We're offering those discounts to everyone now, they're figured right into the prices shown, in addition to that, our buying power has increased, allowing us to lower our prices even more. The prices that are shown on the website right now, are final, there is no room for further discounts.

You're getting your discounted price like you would have got before. Your issue? You want it even cheaper than that. You tried to game Area 51s prices and it didn't work. Just straight up greed, so drop your "honor" speel.

Yeah, I read that in their website. That was put there way after the fact.

Greed? or Thrift?

How can I "game" Area 51s prices? I don't set their prices. But, yes, I tried to take advantage of what I thought would be an extra-good deal. Yeah, I wanted the cheapest price. Shame on me! Damn.
