my bud smells like hay.. :-(

Hey this is my 1st grow and my end result smells like hay. when i cut all my buds off and hung them to dry they smelt really sweet and potent & really sticky to touch .... i hung them to dry for 4-5 days until they where dry to touch in a dark room at approx 18oC... the hay smell kicked in at about day 2. at day 5 i then cut the buds again to fit into my glass jars which ive stored again at room temp in total darkness. am i just being inpatient/unexperienced?
i had flushed the plant for 2 weeks prior to chopping. Here is a photo of my bud at the min the stems are still bendy too. Thankyou in advance to anyone that replies!

They will smell like that even after drying. perfectly normal. Get your self some glass mason jars and cure your buds in them.

open the jars once a day for about 10 minutes, after a month they will be ready to go and smelling like wonderful goodness.

Thanks for your reply! From the pictures ive attached do you think it would be worth the wait? Im currently looking into what options i have i.e wax, butter or oil.. but i am very new so i probably will just smoke it

Yes, all responses are good advice, and hell yeah it would be worth it to cure the buds. You will enjoy the smoke so much more.

yep, put um in glass and burp a few times a day, google decarboxylation if ya want a good read

Put them in a shoe box for a few days then jar them up...

so the smell is purely just moisture & the chlorophyl just breaking down? Ive done a little more reading now and think im on the right track :-S lol. So tonight ive made some butter with my trims... i was thinking about trying to make some of that new 'wax' stuff but im not playing with butane :-/

I see a lot of long, white hairs on the buds whereas usually buds are harvested when hairs have turned red/ brown and have receded (actually the bud swells, engulfing the hairs). Early harvesting will effect the high and the smell and taste of the bud.

Agreed the hairs will turn mostly amber. The best wway to tell is looking at the tricomes. Cloudy with a few amber and they are ready to harvest.

Keep curing it in the glass jars, it takes 1-2 months to fully cure.

Lol ive down a few grows and a ton of research but i never checked pH, mainly because the pen was expensive. But i finally cracked and bought one for ~$75

Lol don't worry man imo weed that smells like hay is a sign that it's very fresh since since it hasn't been squashed etc.... the reason weed that you buy smells straight away is mostly cause the bud has been squashed and the smell has leaked....

And you DO NOT need to cure for 1-2 months 3 weeks is all you need op

I guarantee you op that if you cure your buds properly ( 15 minutes of burping twice a day for 2 weeks) the buds will look better, smell amazing, taste better and burn better my first grow the weed smelt so bad of hay i almost threw out 3 ounces of weed that turned out to be the best weed i've ever smoked hands down better than amsterdam even
