But see, hank...I'm not arguing. I don't see respectful discussion, even of different povs, as having to be an argument.

Agree...disagree...make your points....as long as it's all done w/o the obligatory denigrations that some automatically insert, where's the friction? Pass the joint....on with the 'conversation' friends. :peace:
Gotcha.. you are not the type.to.blow.your.head on the internet.. i like that..
Still.. you have a problem.with info that is a single source, being a book that was written 200 (cough;; 2000) yrs ago by a writer who could be xonsidered bias..

Remind you of any other books?

It is just a funny point.for a bible man to be bringing up..

.. you will say the bible was not.a.single.book.. more like a compilation..
.. im sure Kerseys book sourced from more than one text/person as well..

Do.you not see how hilariously hypocritical that is?
Well.......I see the point you're going for. Is that close enough for you? :bigjoint:

There's probably a good reason that - and I'm just guessing here - one of the 2 books we're discussing is virtually unknown, and the other the single most distributed book in history. Good marketing vs bad? :eyesmoke:

Belief in a god is intellectual laziness.

We can't explain the origin of everything, so it must have come from a magic man in the sky.

Jesus is just one of (I'm speculating here) thousands of ordinary folks throughout history that have claimed divinity. If he were alive today we would have him locked in a padded room.

Timing is everything. :-)

It is a harsh way of putting it.. but, pretty much.

We are at an interesting place in our history.. these gods came about to explain the things we did not know and seemed like we never could know..

Why did the rain not come this year and provide food? God
Why did this winter kill half my family when the past 20 yrs did not? God
Why did the river dry up? God
Why does the sun come up every day? God

Now we are in this time when we have some of those answers..

Instead of joining everyone else in this amazing time of learning about our origins many religious folks choose to instead write it all off. Those who refuse to adapt will seal their own fate. Find an easy way out and get with the times if you want to see your religion survive. That or dig deep into the least educated demographic.. And then, you know, start young and push it hard. Kids believe everything their parents say.

Trying to say evolution and the big bang is all bullshit is just going to make you look like a fool..
Unless, of course, you have a better reason to think so aside from the Bible, your faith, etc.. those are not good reasons. Evidence.. supporting evidence to a theory.

That is a tad harsh but I agree with the sentiment.

What I love about science is it raises additional questions and improves upon itself. Bad ideas die, good ones stand up to scrutiny and experimentation.

Would you say the Big Bang theory is intellectual calisthenics?

Or, even better - a chance bumping of a precise formula of gas and moleculer matter, none of which has ever been defined. :D
I would say the Big Bang theory is just that... a theory. But it's a theory grounded in science and evidence. It is a fact that scientists have been observing that certain stars/planets are moving apart in a linear trajectory, suggesting that these star/planets were all together at one point and something (big bang??) caused them to break apart with great force. Based upon the speed that they are moving away from one another scientists can pretty accurately tell us when this happened. Was that the origin of life? I dunno, but it makes more sense than the virgin birth and talking snake. Cripes, dinosaur bones alone disprove the whole god story in the bible. There isn't a single shred of evidence to support any claims in the bible.

But I get why you buy in. Your spaghetti sauce approach to life falls right in line with this. It's the palatable, easy approach. :-)

You do realize that a theory in science is something that is more important than a scientific fact correct? That it is a phenomenon that holds up to scrutiny and testing, comprising of multiple facts correct?
Quit dancing, TY. Either you know the magic formula of molecules and gasses, or you don't. It appears that you don't - but you have 'faith' that one day science will figure out the rest. :eyesmoke:
