winner and still undefeated: increasing the minimum wage

Nice story, but it doesn't address the root cause or unintended consequences of government meddling into the dealings of two private individuals attempting to make a cual agreement.

I was going to post a long ass answer few would read and fewer would understand. Instead I'll simply say go the Lew Rockwell site and use the search there. Type in minimum wage and a shit load of articles will appear, consider reading some.
My point is that someone made the statement that employees have this power to bargain with their employer.

This is simply not the case for many.

That doesn't make it good or bad, I was just pointing out what is.

Nowhere is it written that we all have to have equal status.

This shit is so annoying. As an employer, I can't imagine paying some of the people I've had working for just above minimum wage any more. These people barely clean themselves, barely show up to work when it's necessary, and don't get
me even started on being timely at all. People need to survive, I completely understand that, but it's not my job to help them do that. We all survived and worked our asses off to get to where we are today, why should anyone be helped along because they're too lazy to do it themselves?

Sorry, but you can't have a capitalist society with socialism or communist values. It's a dog eat dog world, not a hug a tree and rub each others genitals world.

The hardest working survive and possibly thrive. Remember the American dream? Yeah, me neither- liberals are trying to destroy it by handing out everyone else's hard work to the wretched, great unwashed. Let the poor suffer, let the weak fail- again it's survival of the fittest, not some bullshit utopia where everyone dances around a big cock statue and jerks themselves off over a big communal bucket of happiness.

Oh, and Buck, you sure are grasping for straws with this thread, aren't you? In a devastating loss like your party took this past week I'm glad you stay positive though- finding a win in all the loss is like finding a few barely alive fuckers after Gettysburg.

I used to think so too.

Then a friend of mine, who had gone through some troubles in life was starting to get back on track.

He got a job as a supervisor for a janitorial company. They paid him 9 an hour, and his underlings were at 8.

He said during his interview he was promised a raise quickly. For three months he got glowing reviews from his boss. Finally he saw another company advertising the same position for 11 an hour.

He got a meeting with the big dog and asked for a raise, adding that it was promised in the interview, his work had been top notch, and brought a copy of the other company's ad.

They told him it would be considered. They never got back to him on that, but they made his work life hell from then on.

Most people can be replaced so easily that the comparative bargaining power is way unbalanced.

If he was worth more, why didn't he get the job for 11 an hour?

If he had quit, would his boss called him back and offered 9.5 an hour, or hired someone else at 9 an hour instead?

Actually the entity that won't bargain (enter into a mutually agreed relationship) is the coercive government.

An employee / employer relationship is a mutual bargain to the extent it can be....as there is no real free market bargaining allowed by the aforementioned coercive government, so the normal relationships that would result in a uni-lateral contract are often skewed by the unwanted intervention.

In other words, when government fucks with things, they usually leave a wake of unintended consequences.

Maybe we should start setting minimum wage for business owners, because I want in on this handout shit too. I can't count the times in my life that at the end of week/month, I made less than the minimum wage after losing my ass because the business had a bad month. In fact, what about those months I lost money after logging 80 hour weeks all month long? Still had to pay the guy or two I had back then, but fuck I lost money. Some liberal needs to fix this quick. I could just send the government a bill at the end of each month so I gets paid.

"Wh-Where are my Mary Janes?"

i don't think that working a 40 hour week is really a "handout", i think you're just bitter.

that's probably because you're a shitty contractor who loses business to illegal immigrants with magnets on the sides of their vans.

It's real cute when those who don't own a business want to dictate how others run it. Especially those who are government cheese eaters.
i doubt any of these e-republicans, all self made businessmen who hate minorities, are telling the truth.

beenthere kept trying to tell us he ran a construction business, turns out he worked customer service at a building supplies company instead.

and he's an aspiring voice over artist doing work for bible thumpers.

Good for you. Apparently the manufacturer of top end growing equipment likes my stuff so much they openly sought out my testimonial right here in RIU. That was before you were even a member of RIU, ancient history. But probably after you were a Stormfront member.

A voice acting bible thumper at least doesn't engage in tax evasion and money laundering, Nancy.
there's no way to know that, although it might be likely. otherwise he would have used the extra money to clean the pet piss stains off the carpet in his apartment.
