OG#18 for a novice grower, bad idea?

I have about three years exp in growing and I feel confident enough to take on some OG kushes. I have done well with kandy kush from reserva and I think that I am getting everything dialed in, I hope. On the description for OG#18 says that it is for expert growers and low yield and it's for personal use, cause you wont want to sell it right? I am sorting through a 10pack of jilly bean and I am looking for a good kush to go next to it!. I also have a 10pk Jesus OG that I will be waiting for another OG to run with it. I have the Jesus og already so that is not up for debate lol... My nephew is pretty set on #18 and he is going to pay half for the pk and I am nervous about me being able to handle it...I really just want to hear about exp growing or smoking it because I have not had the chance!
I am not a dumbass and I do alot of research because I have plenty of time. I am a disabled combat vet and currently unemployed. I do get service connected disability and SSI and I own my own home. So, I have time and a couple of acres of land. I was thinking about going to college for a horticulture degree for sustainable crops or greenhouse/nursery using my GI Bill... I dont think that I could wear a suit and tie anymore, I am leaning more towards off grid living. My friend that is also a combat vet is getting into alternative energy... I am just rambling now!

I am going to make an order this weekend! I had OG#18 & AK47 picked... Then, I started to look at Ghost train haze from RareD... Wow, its a sativa! I may have to put the AK back for this one!

I disagree that you need to be an expert to grow it. I am not and mine came out fine. It does stretch a fair amount and is a lanky plant, but other than that I don't foresee you having any problems if you have been growing for three years. Agree with kgp about the light nutes.

Thanks for the replies! I am looking for a 2nd pack to get... I wanted to try bodhi or Og raskal but their strains are out right now. SunShineDayDream, Goji, and WhiteFire OG are the top 3 that I want to try but they are out and looks like they are going to be out for a while! I want to try out some OG goodness but want to stay away from cali connect for now... I was looking at RP's Kosher or skywalker. Also, RareDankness has my curiosity. Ghost train haze looked cool until I saw a 80day flower time. It would be cool if it was really worth it. I know that their El Jefe has won an award this year or Scott's OG looks cool. I am new to the OG's and my nephew has me excited about it. I was going to buy a pack of AK47 but I have had it before and it is time for something new! I am probably going to order from attitude. Thanks!

blue pit from breeders boutique or the dog, both kick ass og's the dog is harder to grow than the blue pit imo. cheap seeds and the best quality i have had from any bank!.

i've done the og18 and liked it but compared to the dog it is like water and fine wine. not as potent on the nose or head.

OG18 is the best I've grown from RP.

The whole expert thing I'd probably because it's a finicky plant. What kgp, said don't go heavy on watering or on nutes.

I grew a few of these out and they were probably the best smoke out of some of the other OGs from RP. Solid smoke, low yield.

I have grown OG 18 twice. First pheno was super hairy, smelled like dirty laundry, buzz was ok, but overall sucked.
Second time, it was hard chunky calaxys with a strong sour smell. Also not what I like in OG. I prefer the lemon pinesol phenos.
So personally I will never grow OG 18 again. It is not what I look for in an OG.

If #18 is the best from Reserva, then I should not worry about kosher or skywalker for now huh? I think that I am interested in RareDankness. I really wanted some WiFi from OG Raskal. Anyways, looking at the 501st, Scotts OG, Starkiller,Venom OG, and GTH#1, I will look at breeders boutique!

the dog has the same parentage as the og 18 but is a bit more og dominant, there are some great diesel phenos to be found too.
i honestly can't recommend the blue pit enough man, it has the potency of the dog but yields like an absolute beast. check it out!!

i have a few beans of the gth left, one good pheno out of 6 beans grown means i don't rate it highly, the good one was pretty special though, just need 10ft ceilings to grow her properly lol

I love #18. been growing it for 4 years, made s1s, kept clones and bred it back to their regular og.
it's a bit finicky but a great plant when it running on all cylinders.
the yield is not bad( i get about 4 oz per)
follow the advice from kgp: ... light nutes, high calmag, don't overfeed and you will succeed ;)

I grew the OG18 x Skunk1 a few years back,that shit reeked sour catpiss.it grew fast and branchy,large yield but i think that was because of the skunk.

Kosher wasn't bad but I was let down. Low yields, even more floppy and larger spaced nodes. Just as finicky.. I don't know I believe I smoked the cut which was amazing so the bar was pretty high.

Id recommend against buying og18 unless you can find a clone pre 2012. I ran there freebie few years ago and was full OG bliss. So i bought 2 packs and ran 1 end of 2013. Total garbage, nothing like the freebie. They must have lost a parent to the cross cause the recent packs suck. I gave my other pack away with a warning. I even had 5 og18s 2ft tall going into bloom and just killed them cause of the complaints, dont want my name on that low grade garbage. Im not a dna hater either. Ive ran there kosher tangie since then and many other dna/rp strains before with good results.

What id do based on your info given is join canna collective and preorder WIFI by rascal for $120 today...

My nephew is set on OG#18 and he is going to pay for most of it, so I am not going to rain on his parade or anything by telling him that lol. I am sure that his buddies were telling him about some clone #18 and not seeds. I am looking at RareDankness right now because they have stuff in and they have a promo! I will post in the RD section and see if I can get help with that.
I guess that I have heard about the OG's being difficult and being labeled anything but beginner strains. I went through this phase where I could not clone anything, my plants looked like shit, and my harvest were like the great depression lol. I have learned a lot from my mistakes and I think that I am able to do both soil and flood/drain hydro pretty well. I have a 4x8 area and I have both a flood table and soil side by side.

The True OG dropped at the tude, I would go for that over OG18 only because I have tried both and I personally can't find a better OG.

Made by the same dudes who used to do RP Reserva Privada.
