300w SCRoG Passive Hydro - 6 strains

Starting a journal on my fresh grow!

Severely budgeted this time, so I'm only running one 600, dimmed down to 300.

Strains are:
Humboldt Seeds: Blue Dream,
Humboldt Seeds: Trainwreck
World Of Seeds: Northern Lights x Skunk
Delicious Seeds: Northern Lights x Blueberry
Samsara Seeds: Crazy Miss Hyde

And lastly, labeled "SWPR ",
some feminized seeds a friend of mine gave me because she no longer has the need to grow.

If you know what that strain could be, please let me know!


Setup:

300w mh / hps 3x3 magnum reflector
-600w Lumatek dimmable Balast, set to 300w.

6" 150cfm fan

10Lx5Wx7T Tent

3x3 Flood Table for DTW

20gal Smart Pot Hempy-Hybrid
-Terracotta plant saucer 20gal(inside)
-Hydroton 2" Layer
-60/40 Pumice - Super Soil

-Seedlings Pre-grown in 3"Coco-Cups
---75/25 Pumice - Super Soil
--- 1" Top layer of Vermiculite for germination

RO 3 Stage Filter (Built by Greenmile in So. Cal)
-Hand Watering

Nutes:
General Hydroponics GO Line
-Floralicious Plus
-Diamond Nectar

Supplements:
Cal-Mag +
Sweet
(Will be others, and I will post when I finally decide and get them)

Trying to keep this grow low cost(LOL right?) And low tech as possible! We'll see how she turns out!

So far:

12:00pm yesterday , Dropped seeds into filtered water glasses.
They Sank today , then planted in cups and saturated with plain water to let tails pop...

Ill post back when they come up!

Passive, meaning no pumps, airators, or backup reservoirs to maintain an oxygenated hydroponic system.

Because though there is a reservoir in the bottom of the pot that the plants constantly draw from as needed, it uses a Passive system (evaporation and uptake of plants) to circulate and refresh the reservoir.

When the plants hit the reservoir, it will dry up daily, allowing for the exchange of fresh, oxygenated water.
Before they hit the reservoir, the water won't be drying up daily, however there's such a small amount of water in the reservoir, that it gets completely refreshed and reoxygenated with every DTW watering.

Hope this cleared things up a little..

Waited until everyone popped up to do an update..

NlxSk was the first up, followed by SWPR, both growing ahead of the rest.
After them, everyone else came up within a day of each other.

In having problems maintaining Humidity, temperature, and light intenstity.
The girls are stretching BAD.

Have my exhaust fan set for 15min, every 30min. Maintaining 70-80% Humidity, at 85F, which I know I way too hot for babies...so I'm going to leave the exhaust on full time, and hope that the low humidity will be ok... 40-60%, 75F


Crazy Miss Hyde, the first closeup, is showing some deficencies , so im trying to get the temp down, to slow rate of uptake and transpiration, as well as I'm adding 1/4strength BioRoot to every other watering for something to nibble on.

Good News!
Kept humidity steady at 60-70%, temperature steady at 75-78F;

Let pots start to dry out overnight, (24hr light cycle, )
And gave a 1/2strength feeding of BioRoot.

Since then, everyone, including Miss Hyde, has really exploded with growth, and evened up much more with color and shape! Stretching has stopped!

Forgot to mention, I turned my ballast up to 400w. That coupled with turning my exhaust fan on full time, was enough to STOP the nasty stretch.
They don't seem to mind the drop in humidity. Rather like the change in conditions.
Running my little personal 1g humidifier full blast, I'm able to maintain 60-70%. Sometimes ill turn my oscillator off while I'm chilling in there, and let the humidity climb up to 80ish, breathe on them for awhile(CO2)
then turn it back on. But maybe that's a bit unnecessary lmao. .. ...

Decided since they stretched so much, to pot them up in their big Hempy..

So I mixed up some super soil out of:
25% Dr. Earth Organic Homegrown POTting Soil. (Similar to Ocean Forest but no BUGS and IMO a much better starting mix than OF or some other pre-amended soils)

25% Pumice

20% Earthworm Castings

10% Silica Rock (Botanicare Hydrolite) 20141101_152355.jpg

20% Hydroton that I had left over from the 2" Hempy Hydroton Reservoir on the bottom

Amendments:
Happy Frog "High P" 0.5.0 Bat Guano

Subculture B
(Left over. Had no 'M')

Alfalfa Meal

Cascade Mineral Products
"Original Recipe" Vocanic Rock Dust. Beneficial organic minerals.

Yeah, I started in soil a couple years ago, went hydro, but now going back to soil, I really like soil more.

I miss the growth speed of hydro!, though I don't miss coming back to 6 inches of water in my tent and the outside floor flooded..... haha... bongsmilie

And I'm really liking being full organic! 8-)

I hear ya! I really wanted to do soil this grow but decided against it, since it's my first grow in almost 3 years. So, someone advised me to stick with what I know. At least for this round. Since I always grew in 4x4, I usually did a dtw in 5 gal pots with coconut pebbles.

But, I am VERY interested in doing soil in the future and going full organic. Before switching to soil, what was your setup like? dwc?

Yeah exactly. Go with what you know, and take a couple clones to test out different methods.

I have a grow journal with my old hydro setup, 1200w Flood and Drain.

But in short, it was (2) 600w 3x3's, over (2) 3x3 Flood and Drain tables.
Medium was 90% Lava Rock
7% Silica Rock
3% Coco

I feel like organic is the way to go.
However, I LOVED what I got from Hydro, and I will always keep my hydro gear nearby.

I don't think for someone who is healthy, such as myself, that using non-organic nutes is harmful enough to have negative effects. As long as the company is trusted and clean. I use General Hydroponics, and couldn't be happier.
I've used and have had great harvests with every different nutrient/supplement that they have minus their sweeteners, because I donth believe in them, or ruining my dank flavored nug with artificial flavoring.

For some patients who are chronically ill, Organic is definitely the only option..
Which is why I love Gen Hydro so much, because their Organic line is not just organic, but Veganic, for the extra-concious.

I hear that! Medicinal grade is what I'm shooting for. I've had really good results before with general hydroponics floranova with only bat guano added during flowering. Trying Maxibloom this grow though, as I've been reading people have been getting sweet results using that the whole way through.

My best yield in 4x4 scrog with 600watt hps was 1.5 lbs with 4 plants. So, I'm hoping with some high quality LED's will help me cut down the heat and power usage to a minimum.

That's a damn good yeild!
LED's will most definitely cutdown on both of those, and are worthwhile investments forsure! Though I'm not sure what kind of yeilds LED produce.. haven't really checked into it

I would not leave them all in a single container like that. You can end up with root contention and if you end up getting a male or have to pull one for any reason, you will end up with rotting roots that can wreck havoc on the rest of the plants.

With that many strains you can also have different growth rates and different feeding requirements to properly take care of them.

Just my .02
