If money isnt a problem, can u buy fans to cool the HID setup or is your grow area just not big enough? Im using 600w HID in an area 2x4x10 but I also have a nice ventillation setup to keep it cool.

i could buy everything i need for a hid set up but my girlfriend is worried about fires thats was part of the deal that i had to get the safest ones my plan is to have the two 250w red spectrum in the shade and one of my 200w blue spectrum verticle among the plants how do ya reckon il fair with the envirolites

You dont have to worry about a fire as long as you arent jerry rigging ballasts and lights and have adequate cooling. Fire prevention is kinda common sense. But, as an electrician, I meet people all the time that have fears of their house burning, mostly women, so I feel your pain.

yeah blackcoupe i got to go by the rules but im trying to use all the best gear i can get without usin hid so i suppose time will tell if enviros are any use...........by the end i will be using 2 250w red spec and 1 200w blue spec so that will be 700w i think il have to get an inline fan an a carbon filter although i resent the price il also have a spare 200w blue spec when im flowering i be tempted to use that too (900w)probably get heat issues again if i do

Heh, yeah, take fires seriously. My home burned down 3 years ago, pretty traumatic experience. Had nothing to do with growing (wasn't growing anything then, thank god). It was just ancient wiring or something. They never did figure out *exactly* what started it, but it started in the basement. I keep several fire extinguishers around now, two on each floor.

I think an HID light is pretty safe though, if you use it inside an air-cooled reflector. Even if the bulb explodes (which has never happened to me), it's still inside the reflector. As long as you aren't buying shady jury-rigged ballasts off ebay with exposed wires, I don't think there's any more risk of fire than running a beefy gaming computer or a microwave or a hairdryer.

But I think you're doing the right thing using envirolights, because that's not a ginormous cabinet, and the heat of an HID would probably be at least somewhat of an issue in there. Could be done, but not as simply or easily.

sorry to hear about your house an yeah probably bein a bit overcautious but im livin in an apartment so if anything where to happen they would have to evacuate 100 apartments i think i would be in the bad books with the neighbours anyway il take a few plant photos an stick em up
