time to switch to 12-12?

this is my first time and i cant figure out when to switch to 12-12... They have been in the soul 13 days. I am growing under a 1000w HPS light, on an 18-6 right now. please let me know if i can switch.

To be honest it just depends on personal preference. If you have the room to keep growing, keep growing. They say that a plant doubles in size during flower. So if you want your final product to be double that, make the switch.
 
how do the 5 gal buckets work out for you? i plan on using the same thing since im poor and dont wanna pay for 3 gal pots.
 
I'm not sure I'd doubt the guy. I've grown some not quite as big....maybe 2/3ds the size and I was under (2) 400s. He is under (1) 1000. Then again...I grow hydro.
 
I've come to the conclusion that his plants are clones. Flower when YOU want to & remember they will double in size so if you started 12/12 now they would probably be around 3' tall when finished.

Listen to Dfunk. If they're clones you can flower anytime. If they are from beans I wouldn't go to 12/12 before preflowers show. In some cases they even triple in size too so consider your ceiling height/light fixture arrangement if you can't LST
 
they were in rockwool cubes. I got them as clones, they were about 3" tall each. I will watch for preflowers (im guessing little hairs...). Thanks.
 
I just saw that there is a second page of responses... they are from clones and I will wait a while before i go to 12/12 since they will only double. I have about 3 more feet i can take the light up and i have about 3 feet from the lights to the canopy. Since they are now about 12-15" tall i will wait till they are an average of 18" so i get a final height of 36" and still have 3' to keep the light away from the plants. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?
