I know this story is not directly a cannabis related topic, but since most of us have at one point or another had our right to peacefully consume / grow cannabis aggressively violated by a member of the law enforcement community, I feel it is a cannabis related topic. We all know police abuse their power and pot users and growers are quite often on the receiving end of these paramilitary tactics that turn ordinary US Citizens into military insurgents. I invite anyone who gives a shit about the militarization of our police departments to check out my home State of Missouri that I left and will never return to. If you are a Veteran, you will find these images disturbing. If you are a Citizen, you will find these images disturbing. This country is long overdue for a discussion about the role of police in our present society. Right now, the Citizen is the enemy and my home State is burning.

The speaker of the house is asking the Governor to declare a state of emergency and institute marshal law in the affected areas. Governor Nixon has issued an order demanding local police to stand down due to the further hostilities they invoked by bringing in trained snipers and military equipment to a protest of police abuse. 2 reporters were roughed up by these local police and arrested temporarily then released with no explanation. People who were recording were told to turn off their cameras and roughed up. Tear gas was fired, rubber bullets were fired, schools closed, and the city is a hotbed of unrest. Governor Nixon has brought in the Missouri Highway Patrol to reduce tensions and demilitarize the situation thereby deescalating the violence.
This is exactly the kind of shit that happens when the department of homeland security gives military equipment to local police departments that have no military training. The military is trained to deescalate and reduce tensions when boots are on the ground to save their lives and others so everyone goes home alive. The untrained recipients of this military equipment tend to handle the situation differently and this situation is evidence of a larger problem plaguing America and the rest of the developed world.
