Why is this plant so pale

Ok this is my first attempt at a hydro. I have a soil plant beside it so you can see the difference in Color. I am using the heavy 16 line. Same thing the plant beside it is eating.

I dont grow in hydro so I dont know how it works, but if you are growing seperate strains, some strains require a lot more nitrogen (or other nutrients) than the plant sitting right next to it.

Looks hungry what are you feeding it.
Bump up the nitrogen a bit she will darken up.

Looks hungry alright.

What kind of ppm are you running and what water do you use?

Lights?
Lights are 288 v2 quantum. I am feeding it heavy 16. Ppm is 1400. It’s eating the same thing as the plant next to it. The only think that’s different is the one next to it is an auto and the one next to it is in soil. I’ve never grown a hydro. I’ve never had a hungry plant either lol. I usually have nute burn before I have a hungry plant. The heavy 16 might not be as good for hydro. I have some FF samples I may try those after I had more water. Hell I don’t know what do you guys think

I think that some plants don't darken to that shade of green. I have a few strains that stay light, they'll toast before they go dark.

You can gradually bump up ppm if you want. It's not the number of ppm that matters as much as what that ppm consists of.

I don't think it looks hungry, showing no signs other than a uniform light color. Nothing is fading out. 1600ppm is fucking crazy for such a small plant in my opinion too.

All that said, looks like you've had a slight ph issue with it, so make sure that stays out of the equation.

Heavy 16 is a heavy wallet drainer.....Gee wizz!

Botanicare KIND line is set for hydro, I use it in soil but it has the Ca/Mg in it already...

Hesi, Canna, G&H 3 part, even (this is my evil twin speaking) AN's 3 part or name line base nutrients work well....
Emerald Forrest is the chemical engineer guy that quit AN for his not believing in Big Mikes marketing practice (took Big Mikes girlfriend with him too....LMFAO)

Your in DWC....G&H Flora Nova line 2 part is a real good choice for DWC.....

Heavy 16 is definitely a wallet drainer... not doubts but it is great stuff and I get it off line so it’s joy too bad. You should see how expensive it is in the local hydro store lol. Gonna look into some of this stuff you are talking about

I've been using AN for almost 20 years and say what you want it works and as it's pH Perfect I don't ever check my pH either in soilless or DWC. Saves a lot of hassle.

I bought gallon jugs of the 3 part for $124 almost 3 years ago and have at least 3 years left on those. Got a 500g can of the Big Bud powder, $80 and a liter of Rhino Skin for $45. Recently got a liter of Remo CalMag for $20 and that's it for 5 years or more of growing. The electricity I'll burn to use up those nutes will cost me 20X that so I don't understand all the fuss about how expensive nutes are. I just don't believe in all those fancy supplements that all the nute makers try to flog on us. Fox Farms sure has some goofy names and lots of stuff you really don't need but AN is the bad guy. At least they've proudly proclaimed from the start that they make their nutes for growing pot and never lied and hid behind pictures of fruit and veggies like the rest.

It could just be that pale plant is genetically made that way. Sometimes those different plants end up with the best smoke so you should always get cuttings just in case it's 'The One!'

I almost chose AN over heavy 16 but this was when I first started and I was kinda intimidated by all the different jugs lol. How hard is it to use AN?

Keep in mind I never said it didn't work......Just not "my" choice..

I gotta say though. Big Bud powder is simply Mono Potassium Phosphate (maybe at an altered strength for some) re-packaged and repriced.....Same for most "shooting Powders" and MOAB...
Rhino skin? Better and cheaper forms of Silica are available..
Of course they have to pay for the package and the cartoon character label..

Ya'all gotta know that OMU is a good grower, who grows for the right reasons and is one of the few that actually try and help around here..

We don't "argue" over nutrient choice. Just poke some fun at each other from time to time.....

The thing is, you don't need those other jugs.....

The less you have to add, the easier it is....

AN works! ......"I" would choose something else.... Something more complete maybe... Your new and learning. Less is more for you right now. I would also never suggest you use a "pH - perfect" line and "never test" your pH...

In fact, to learn more about what a possible problem might be, how to "see" the plant properly and to actually learn patience and discipline in growing.....I would suggest you first learn to pH everyday at lights on..

G&H Flora Nova was an especially good line for me in DWC...

It comes very thick and gooey. Cut it 50:50 with RO water and use it at dbl the charted rate till you dial in your strains..

That's my nutrient line suggestion for your method.

It's more than just that tho. Has a better P/K ratio for pot than most, 0-15-35 with 10% sulfur, 20 aminos and ascorbic and citric acids. I hate to grow without as it really makes a big difference to yields and resin production and smells too.

The Rhino Skin is made to work with the pH perfectness of the nutes and jugs lasts for ages so I prefer it over basic potassium silicate which I have a bottle of really concentrated stuff that was dirt cheap. Supposed to only use 1/4ml/L where Rhino says 2ml/L but I use less than half that.

Check out Fox Farms labels and names then explain the difference to me. ;) They all use marketing hype to flog their wares.

I don't badmouth other peoples grow methods but do like to inform people of the behind the scenes stuff like the Scott's/Hawthorne/Monsanto/Bayer connection and how they bought out GH, Botanicare and Gavita to start with. I hated GH long before that tho because they were hypocrites and if you phoned them to get help with the nutes and mentioned pot they'd hang up on you. At AN they'd talk about pot all day if you needed help. I called both so I know. GH partnered up with Maximum Yield mag to badmouth AN along with the other nute companies that were too paranoid to admit that most of their products were sold to pot growers. Now Max Yield runs ads for Mon$atan and their ilk so fug them! Paid trolls posting in forums and those were confirmed. A decent product that was made in Canada just down the road from me when they started up. What's not to like other than the kind of marketing hype all big companies do.

Unlike you I do lousy farming in dirt and as I age I get lazier so AN nutes fits my style. My motto is, Why run when you can walk, why walk when you can sit and why sit when you can lie down! ;)

I usually grow in coco or soil, I just have one in DWC. I’m experimenting lol

Not hard at all. Basically the same as Heavy 16 or any other multi-part nutrient line with the added benefit of balanced pH and even the base 3-part has has some supplements already added.

All you need is the 3-part and Big Bud. I grow mostly in ProMix HP soiiless or DWC. I've done about 50 DWC grows and many never got a single nute change tho I try to do one after the stretch when I'll switch to a Lucas Formula feeding style. I like to add a bit of silica so use Rhino Skin for that. I don't buy all the other crap. That part is hype and not really for newer growers as it's easy to screw up especially if you follow AN's feeding charts. I'm growing Kush plants now but I ain't running out and buying any Kushie Kush nutes. lol

I only use RO water and that helps by not adding all sorts of minerals and crap found in tap water which can screw up plants. My plants only get what I give them.

Anything will work and it just takes experience to get good results. I get away with not changing nutes because I've got pretty good at reading my plants. I could never keep a houseplant alive but do all right with pot. My first grows weren't great but I've read 1000s of hours about growing pot. Have a few good grow books and boxes of magazines like Cannabis Culture, High Times etc. Until it shut down in January I was the the Admin at the Cannabis Culture forums and was 2 weeks short of my 10th anniversary there. Just got an award here yesterday for hitting 5000 posts. This is about the only forum I've been on that doesn't have post counts and likes listed under your name. Doesn't take long to get Well-Known Member status so it doesn't tell much about a users real experience.

Patience Grasshopper. Time is on your side. ;)

Study some of these.

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS . I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as many are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.
