What type of MH bulb are you using?

I don't post a lot of these questions because most of the info can be found by searching. All the answers to this question are about 3 years old. Has there been any improvement?
My MH bulb burnt out so will be replacing before my next grow.

I'm just using the cheap mh that came with my light setup, ipower, Apollo ect. I just use the mh veg and the first 2 weeks of 12/12. If you want a good mh get a Ushio if you want a great mh for veg and flower get a Hortilux Blue.

There is the regular Hortilux mh. With the football shape.

Then there is the special Hortilux Blue mh. With the enhanced spectrum. And the cylindrical shape.

I wasn't careful, and ended up with the "regular" one. To my eyes, the light still "looks" whiter, so I'm not super pissed.

Every once in awhile you hear about (X) bulb not working with (Y) ballast. Do you have super exotic, or super old ballasts?

Just a regular Apollo digital ballast. Are the blue worth the extra money? I'm still flowering so I have some time to do research. I think I'm a few grows from buying a $120 bulb, lol.

Thanks for the info all.

My Apollo digital runs the cheap bulbs and the expensive ones, no problem.

Honestly, I think the fancy bulbs are better, but I never ran detailed, controlled experients to prove it.

The equipment you buy in this hobby pays for itself pretty quick.

That said, you might get more bang for your buck(yields) spending money on fans and refelective material, or bigger pots and more worm castings. I don't want to insult you or anything, but how is your "environment?" Are temps and airflow good? Are you growing big roots?

I use cheap ass Ultrasun MH for veg. I have good Hortilux HPS for flowering but I find it hard to spend $100-$130 for a veg bulb. They are only under them for a few weeks in most cases. I invest in the bulb that the plant will spend the majority of it's life under.

Genesis bulbs are the future. They are unbelievable. BUT they only last one run. You should replace every run.
I will look into these. After this run ill be upgrading quickly. Another ballest another light. Thanks alot.
It seems to be working very well.

Its all in a 4x4x8 room i built. How many plant do you recomend under 1 600w? ATM i have 12 but will be planting a bunch outside once it warms up. But the room will be all year.

It depends on the footprint of the hood. I use a 4x4x7 and 1 600watt Apollo air cooled hood that covers a 2x2 @ 12 inches above canopy. 4 plants in 12"x12" square 5 gallon pots
