What to do with the roots??

Hello:

I have a bloombox and this is my first grow. I have so far discovered 1 male and 1 hermie which I immediately cut down. I have six girls?? left. My question is what if anything should I do about the massive amount of roots leftover in the reservoir from cutting these two plants down? It is a tangled mess!

Thank you so much for any help and all answers.

And what...kill the healthy 6 plants that are still growing? I don't think so, but thanks for the suggestion.

Guess you do your best at pulling them apart, are you vegging? If so they should bounce back, if your in flower, you may be looking at adding some ti e to the finishing, from the shock.

thats just what I would do.

In those setup its best to grow from clone or female seed or you get this kinda problem. Just cut the male plant out and take what seperate roots out you can without hurting the mass. If your lucky the roots will just get absorbed but watch as if they rot to much they can make your water stinky and slimmey.

Try and remove as much of the male and hermie as you can. Keep an eye on the res more than normal, if they start to break down shit will get funky and you might have all sorts of troubles. Personally I would damage roots on the good plants before leaving dead ones in there with them, they'll recover. Its the better option IMO.

Keep us posted! I would think you will have issues with the dead roots but may be wrong! Can you take a couple of cuttings from each? Then next grow you'll know lol.

you can take out as much as you can by hand, and then start using some sort of "zyme," supplement. i use hygrozyme, which woks well for me...

I know with my setup there would be no hope in hell to get anything out at by the time I switch to 12, there's always a solid mat of tangled roots. I have left plants in the tray while removing others near the end of a run but only for a week or two and didnt have an issue but like I say it was near the end. I have used zyme as well. My last run of the season last spring was a bit of an experiment as I got kind of lazy and left a few of the bigger stalks and side branch popcorn going for about 2.5 weeks after the harvest. I was expecting a moldy slimey mess when I went back out to do final cleanup but the plants were actually doing quite well and no issues with the res.

Your best advice and lesson from this should be to use clones or female seeds from now on. With a short time left, you may be OK, but things may get a bit slimy. Use some H2o2' and monitor your res. Make sure you go a good clean on the res before reusing. I also use totes (3 plants to a 20 gal tote), with very good results, but will switch to individual 5 gal buckets at some point to avoid the occasional community tote problems. :peace: & be kind.

This is does not have to be a problem, i cut out males and leave their root system or the parts that tangle into female plants
these dead roots remain there for the rest of the grow they turn brown and look unpleasant but does not effect the system

peace

Thanks you so much for the replies. It is a mess of roots. I have a few more weeks Togo so I think I may try to remove some of it. Otherwise the other roots are nice and healthy. I think they both hermied in my because there was pistils, just little balls along with them!!

This si what I do when i do multiple grow sites in reservoir. I keep the bad ones alive by just chopping the shit out them.

So I took the suggestion and bought some hygrozyme. Now my ph is a bit messed up so have to adjust for that, the ppms were up to 1100 and one of the older flowering plants looks nute burnt, but only on the very top leaves. The water is slightly discoloured but I believe that is from the nutes and the zyme. There is no odour except it smells like dirt but nothing foul about it at all. Small amount of slimeys on the bottom, but air stones are bubbling away. No other plants are showing any signs of stress and in fact are flowering nicely. I have co2 going as well, I don't know how important that is. This is so confusing. I don't have to change my res water until Tuesday and would prefer to keep to this schedule unless I absolutely can't.

Do you use an enzyme concentrate in your reservoir the enzymes break down organic material and turn it into usable plant food

Why did you kill the hermie? You do know that that plant would have given you female pollen and you could have pollinated just one branch and one of your female plants and instant female seeds on just one branch. Then you wouldn't have to buy seeds. Just a thought.

Changed the water today and it was nice and clear, brown, but clear. Still having some problems with the leaves in my older budding plant looking nute burnt. It's weird because it is only on the top bud leaves, and not on any other plants. I mighty to take a pic to see if a visual might be helpful.
