What kind of spores should i get?

u would save money in the long run making your own kits.
Also "PF cakes" are great for beginners. and take less steps from start to finish.

What canndo failed to mention is the additional 7 to 10 days it takes for bulk Grain spawned to a substrate to recover and colonize the substrate.

While cakes once fully colonized are done, and fully ready to fruit for you.

What i like to suggest to everyone though. is "try both"

In this case it would be awesome if you were to inoculate a couple grain jars. some cake jars, AND a single LC all at the same time.

Never put all your eggs in one basket. and if your lucky that LC will be ready for you for your next project where you can inoculate more grain jars, or whatever u want to do.

The best thing about the mushroom hobby is there is no one right way of doing things. everyone seems to find their own way.

Check out my cakes.

As you can see i was able to break 100 grams (wet) on a single flush from a single cake.
Was quite proud.

I don't think there are as many steps to a direct grain innoculation/fruiting.

I never mentioned such a thing because I don't see beginners going to a substrate at all, casing grain alone works quite well and you don't have that (actually) up to 2 week extra wait. that is quite a yield from a cake! The short of all this is that I simply don't see the need for the extravagance of PF over far more simple methods.

i suppose if you fruit straight from a bag u could do it that way.

But if u had jars you would still need to break it up, and would still need to re-colonize.
*shrugs*

Im just a bit of a cake advocate. Too many people look down at them as a "noob" tek.
But if done with WBS flour, instead of BRF and done with the right condition. a cake grow can do just as well, if not possibly better then Bulk.
(^ i know thats a controversial thing to say)

Ive argued it many times over, and dont feel like getting into it. But u just saw a example of my work/results.

Zero - breaking up the grain can take a day to recover, usually you don't even have to wait that. How long does your cake take to fully colonize?

How do you get your grain to colonize so quickly? Even with 2cc LC I'm usually looking at 3 weeks minimum to colonize a quart of popcorn. Rye even longer. Lately I've been putting the syringe on an angle and squirting half cc or so on each side along the glass. It slides down the side and I get nice lines of colonization up 4 sides of the jar. Shaking too much seems to stall me out so I really don't do it until about 2/3-1/2 colonized.

Also, I never seem to get those even pinsets like in that pic. I used to have a lot of trouble with overlay, so I fruit a lot sooner than most people I think. You think that is part of the reason? I'd really like to talk advanced technique with you sometime.

Wow man!!
Thats a really nice canopy you got there!
top notch!
it takes either a really good pinning strategy, good luck, or top notch genetics to get a canopy flush like that. (possibly all three)
Great job!

And with my good genetics, it takes me 14 days to fully colonize a cake on the OUTSIDE from a multispore syringe.
But then i let it sit for another week to make sure the core is colonized. so about 3 weeks before i birth.
But once i birth, fruiting begins immediately.

So what spawn and sub did u use for that flush up there? ^^
Did you really just do grain spawn with no Sub?
did you case? 50/50? or straight verm?
What strain?

Nice job man.

Set your temperature at 82 degrees. Don't be afraid to shake your jars, the first time, when you can see tufts of real white, the second time when you see growth on individual kernels and one more time a day or so later - you will see your entire jar turning white. Pinsets take an orchestration of growth, temp change, fresh air and light. If you mess up your growth, you can either nock it down with hard spraying or cover it with a tiny layer of casing. This requires absolute darkness but mostly to eliminate border breaks - border breaks will ruin a good flush. It requires a 10 degree drop in temperature on the day you supply 3 air changes an hour at 95 percent humidity. When you see any mycelium cresting the surface, "ruffle" or "scrape" the casing so it has distinct valleys and peaks. Drop the temp (yes it does help), start the air exchange and wait 2 days. then turn on your light. When you see any pins at all let your temperature climb back to high 70's or low 8's and wait.

I love the Golden Teachers. I took a tissue clone to liquid culture a few weeks ago that I'm testing in a few brf jars now. I hope, if it works out, it will help keep things more consistant. I do ok with coir, but I never get those awesome flushes like you see in pics like your. More like just one long flush.
