What kind of spores should i get?

ok within the next couple days im gonna buy about 30cc or so of spores. what i want is a fast colonizing, highly psychoactive, nube friendly strain. what ive heard the strain i might be looking for is ether b+ or goldenteacher. so dose anybody got any wisdom the can bless me with would be cool thanks.

I've noticed they all colonize at a very similar rate. Warmer temps seems like they help speed things up but if you want to knock a few days off and save on spores you should consider liquid culture.

Don't bother with liquid culture - unless you are growing huge amounts the effort isn't worth the money you save.

thats just it i do intend to grow a large amount i was thinkning in the rang of any where between 18-36 1/2 pint substrate jars maby even more. imma gonna blow some cash to get started but whatever it takes im gonna make it happen. so if i am gonna go big whats the liquid culture going to do for me as apposed to spores if i am going to grow lots?

I disagree there is very little effort involved and is much easier than constantly having to make prints and new syringes. It also speeds up colonization time by at least 3-5 days.

You buy a few more syringes and you use less in each innoculation - simple as that, as opposed to concocting a liquid nutrient, sterilizing it, inocculating that, hoping that you didn't contaminate it, possibly missing the contamination and innoculating jars with contaminate. This is a reasonable technique for experienced users - I use monoculture LC often and go so far as to mag stir the stuff for maximum mycelial growth but I don't think it is necessary for someone intending to do a couple to a couple dozen jars.

It isn't the colonization rate that will have you "pumpin mushies out", but the surface area of your substrate. Keeping your mycelium at full temperature will usually take most different strains to their maxium growth rate - I have found that the difference between one strain and another at this rate is only a day or two. If you use grain, you can get about any strain to colonize an entire jar in under a week start to finish.

umm..... why? why on earth would you use that many 1/2 pint jars? Especially if you are going to "blow some cash"? Man, that is a LOT of work. If you actually intend to spend that money, get a decent pressure cooker for 80 bucks - it will cook 7 QUART jars at a pass, or it will cook 4 bags at once.

You can get over half an ounce dry from each quart jar, more if you are at all careful, and you can get two ounces or more dry from each bag - and each will colonize in as little as a week.

Golden Teacher, Treasure coast, and Cambodian.

The only thing i would do diffrent in that tek, that i havent updated yet. is to use "Wild Bird Seed" (which u can find cheap at $10 for a 20Lb bag)
and get a $12 coffee grinder, and grind the WBS into Flour.
then mix it at a 2:1:1 ratio of Verm:WBS four:Water

you can find a 23 quart pressure cooker (holy shit it dropped in price!) for $59 on amazon.com

i can say that pressure cooker works great from amazon i just got mine yesterday and it works great so far;) LOL worth every penny :)

see this will be my first grow, i'm just trying to collect any and all information i could. i have easy access to a decent pressure cooker and either plan to by substrate bags or lots of 1/2 pint jars and do all the fixins myself. on another not so what seems to be the general consensus is that there's no real difference in colonizing time as long as the perfect environment is kept they grow at pretty much the same rate.

the question is whether the substrate can be shaken - you would be well advised to use a free flowing grain like popcorn or rye berries or, if you have to, wild bird seed, all by itself. These substrates can be shaken and thus can have your containers fully collonized in very short amounts of time. I have seen a bag of rye innoculated with a mono culture lc fully colonized in 4 days. Frankly, in my opinion, using 1/2 pints for anything other than proof of strain is absurd.

have any of you guys seen any of the Midwest Grow Kits products. i was thinking of getting my substrate bags there, or even there Ultimate Mushroom growing Kit?
