Very old MH lamp...

Would a 20 year old MH bulb that was never used be worth using now? It's just a standard 250w universal mount bulb...Phillips, I think.

Also, do these or HPS bulbs explode if they fail? I know fingerprints can cause hotspots on the bulb's glass which could cause it to fail, but could it explode?

I would mainly worry that a newer bulb would be more efficient.
