im a noob grower and decided not to take advice to trim lower material, as I wanted the full experience of popcorn, well, it will be my last... cut the girls 2 weeks or closer to flowering.. hack the shit out of the lower plant,,, trim her clean! and keep cutting the crap that tries to grow back out on the lower branches,,, this will focus the growth on the upper buds.....now, lower popcorn material is a waste imo ,,... it just takes energy from the growth of the uppers... also, it may help if you get mites,,, easier to control when done this way... good luck

I just cut off 4 of the big big fan leaves on the back left plant seen in my avatar.. it definitely looks pruned but the lower nodes are recieving light now. This is my AK-48 strain and its a really strong strain so hopefully I see huge growth in the small leaves under those big fan leaves.
1 out of four?
Doing your own experiment?
Coming up with your own evaluation?

YES!!! Definately the way to grow and learn! Good for you!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

You are going to get people to tell you not to remove a single leaf, because if the plant didn't need them, mother nature wouldn't put them there.... The logic sounds reasonable, until you consider that the plant was evolved while growing outdoors under the wonderful sun. When we bring the plants in, we need to make some modifications to our horticultural technique. One of those is light pruning. I remove any big lower fan leaves and I also clean up the insides of my plants to allow better airflow. I also take clone cuttings from my plants before I flower them.

Do what you think is right for your plants. Don't let anyone, including me, make the decision for you. I own 3 pairs of Fiskar shears, and I don't only use them for harvesting ;)

So a few people have said that cutting the bigger fan leaves can be a good idea to promote growth to lower nodes.. Should I just cut the 2 biggest fan leafs on each plant? and by cutting these leaves should I cut them all the way off or just cut the tips of each leaf on the fan, this is my first grow so I am unexperienced in this area, this is something thats hard to research and seems you have to figure it out for yourself but I hate failure so I wanna make sure its the right move before cutting these big ass leafs off my plants

As has been pointed out, veg and flower are two different cycles, can you come back to Veg for us? ;)

And popcorn isn't useless, it is less desirable. It still makes great butter or hash.
