Trimming bottom branches

I trim off all the bottom branches that dont get enough light to grow big buds. Has anybody tried filling the soil up to cover over those branches once they're cut off. When transplanting tomatoes you plant them deeper than they have been growing so the stem can grow roots from it. If i was to trim my bottom branches and fill the soil over the cut branches they would grow roots from there and down the stem thats covered too. Good idea? bad idea? anybody do it? done it?

Leave the trimmed area open......It helps with air flow...IMO
But it wouldnt hurt to bury it.
