Too late to start from seed?? lost half my plants to slugs.

Despite my best efforts, cedar mulch with a diatomaceous earth ring and a mat of sandpaper around my plants the slugs have just gone to town, I can tell from the slime trails all over. I've lost almost half my grow to those little pigs, 10 gone and 4 in ICU. I am wondering if it is too late to start new seeds for outdoor here in MA. I've never tried to start this late and I am wondering if it would be worth my time to cripple my seed stock to try and make up for such a devastating loss. it's been rough here this year with a very wet past two months slugs, snails fungus are rampant. I am holding on to the hope that it will warm up and dry out soon. Anyone have any thoughts or opinion on the subject

Yea I live in Cali last frost was prbly February. So to rephrase my question, If I plant a seed outdoors Today June 6th will the plant have enought time to veg ? Or will they be premature, when they begin to flower(mid August )?

Its never too late. If you plant now they wont grow too big but some bud is better than no bud. Just make sure u harvest before the frost, and after any dangers of frost you can start again, then harvest around april and then start a summer grow!

Just one bit of info on the slugs. Get a gallon of ammonia cleaner from the store mix it 3 parts water 1 part ammonia fill up watering can and wet down the whole area where you will be growing. It will kill all adult slugs and eggs. Learnt this from a pro agriculturalist and has never failed. Keep it green and good growing.

I think if you start right away, like today, it is worth it. I've put plants out early July in buckets with a couple weeks of veg indoors and they turned out to be like 3-4oz plants. If you could get some clones that would be ideal.

How big are your plants when you put them out? If you grow them under lighs for a few weeks indoors they should be able to withstand slugs I would think.

Thanks for all of the input and advice. I started some more seeds this morning, Should be sprouted by end of the weekend, so hopefully I can have them in the ground by July. If nothing else I can use them restock my seed supply.

dragnit; thanks for the advise about the ammonia, I used it for my vegetable garden and I should see results in a few days. Unfortunately my grow area is spread over 2 acres of land so unless I rent a crop duster I won't be able to effectively spray the whole area.

sonar; my plants where 3.5 weeks old when I put them out in my grow area, 4th node showing but still growing. I like to keep them longer, 6 to 7 weeks, but I moved this winter and at my new home the state police like to run speed traps from my driveway. I have no lights or indoor area and rely on natural sunlight for all my growing.
