test grow

so i just typed out 4 paragraphs about this grow then my browser logged me out when i went to post. so ima try and make this short. sorry it wont be as informitive as i would like but its 3 am and i already wasted 2 hours typing. main thing to understand here is this is a fun grow being done to test my new boxes and because i wanted to try some other things like a full solo cup grow and some lst. i know i have alot of things that are wrong but im not going for great here. 2 boxes one veg one bloom. both have a 60w and a 27w cfl but they are diff spectrums. i have 8 plants at the moment. one is a sprout 3 are vegging and 4 are flowering females. the 3 vegging and the 4 flowering were sprouted at the same time. we had power go out for around 30 hours a couple weeks ago and thats when i split them up 3 went to 24 hours light and 7 went to 12/12. 3 of the 7 were males. pictures a,b,and c are of the 3 that are vegging. 2 have shown a hair or 2 but one hasnt shown a for sure hair. im guessing the dark period flipped everything to flower but the 3 flipped back to veg. the 4 in veg are all in solo cups. I just wanted to see how well that wold work from start to finish. I have already decided its not even worth it to hold the roots back that much. they are all growing great and im looking forward to this continued education. hope yall like what you see. this will be my 3rd grow, 1st one is on here somewhere from a couple years ago but it got shut down when my roomate got the electric bill, my second one ended when my girlfriend forgot to water my plants while i was on vacation. im open to any questions comments or concerns just remember this is for fun. i should be updating soon with some pics of the boxes

I could be wrong, but did I see aluminium foil on the walls in some of your pics? If it is foil, get rid of it. Foil is really, really poor at reflecting light and can cause more damage than good (heat spots...). If you don't have mylar, you're better off with white paint, or even white paper.

Sorry but can you explain? I don't understand white reflecting more light than foil. I know the shiny side of foil will make hotspots but I thought as long as you use the dull side it was great. Thanks

Happy 4th of july to everyone. Hope y'all are out celebrating freedom. I have been doing some cloning this morning. Hope I did these right and hope they work. I cut the lowest branch of growth, not the little branch with just 3 leaves but the branch wit actual growth on it,then I put it in water till I could cut a little skin off the bottom and dipped it in rooting powder. I put them in little jars with tapearound them and folded over the top to leave a little hole. I got 2 off each plant except for plant c. She didn't have quite enough grown for 2 cuttings. I will check back with her after work later, hope im out before my lights are. Also the plant pic is something odd I saw, can someone tell me if this is normal? Im not worried but its a difference. It seems the nodes are staggered (not straight across from eachoher) and one side has 2 branches and 2 sets of fan leaves. Thank y'all and once again have a great birthday america!!!

I've never used foil as a reflector, I just went out and bought a roll of mylar, so I'm not really sure how damaging foil can be to a grow. All I know is what I've read on these forums, and the general consensus is not to use foil (dull or shiny side). I've read that flat while paint works better as a cheap alternative.

Thanks bro I will read thru that here in a sec when I get a lil time. Where do I get mylar from? Does walmart or loses or HD have it? Another question is where can I get rockwool at if there is no hydro store anywhere around?

I'm afraid I don't know where you can buy mylar stateside - I live in the UK, and ordered some of my stuff online, and some stuff I bought directly for a local hydroponic shop.

Most garden centers will stock rockwool and clay pebbles, but mylar I'm not so sure. Loads of online hydro stores will deliver, though, and mylar is pretty cheap.

alright so starting with my veg box. This is a treasure chest i picked up from good will for $6. Its perfect, built in lock and latches

these 2 show the inside of my box. I lined the whole thing with the dull side of aluminum foil. I haven't been able to find any mylar but as soon as i do i will be redoing both boxes. I also lined the floor with some draining mat. There are 2 holes in the box. both of them are i believe 4" round. I only have one fan installed at the moment but will put the other in when i put my clone lights in. my light raiser is made from scraps of wood that i cut notches in to hold the custom cfl fixture I created. This thing has worked great so far. I also have the ladies tied down. I am using twist ties to keep them low and grow into a slight ring around the pots. I will keep wrapping them around the rim until my ones in flowering are done or i find a place i can put them outside. I may have found a spot I can put one in a trashcan for the rest of the summer

this one is for now my veg room. Another goodwill special. it is covered in foil as well. at the moment i have 4 beauties in it right now in their solo cups with plenty of room but when these finish the 3 blue buckets fit perfect.

this is the full inside. Right now its split into 2 portions. it has a large fan in the top and 2 ducting tubes coming thru the bottom of the space. from there the air comes from a passive hole covered with a dryer vent flap. I even covered the flaps with foil tape. all light has been blocked and everything is reflective. I want to rebuild it, probably when i get Mylar, so that the shelf part moves up and down with my lights attached to it and venting thru it. my humidity stays at 50% all the time

this is of my 4 flowering beauties. makes sense there are 2 short ones and 2 tall ones cuz i mixed from 2 diff batches of bag seeds.

all of them have have some red in the leaf veins. im trying to flush them to see if some of it will go away

as for soil and nutes im using all the solo cups are grown in the jiffy seed mix. I let them get about an inch and a half tall before i started feeding them with these nutes i got from home depot. but like i said i have recently been trying to flush some of the purple out from the excess nutes. There is one lady in veg that is in the seed mix but the other 2 are in MG moisture control. they were started in the seed mix in solo cups like everything els but transplanted into the MG. All of these plants were started at the same time. They grew for maybe a couple weeks and i then split them into seperate rooms.

so i was moving things around in my veg box trying to make room for my home made cloner and one of the plants seems to have fallen and broke in half. I have done what I can to turn it into a clone. I got my cloner warming up right now and should be putting all my cuttings into it tomorro

So just a couple pics I took of my ladies yesterday. Looking more and more like bud porn every day.
