Stalks splitting killing branches

Does anybody know what this is? what causes it? how to treat it? It started on just a couple plants, now at least 10 are affected. Whole limbs are wilting...

is there a bulge in stem where split is?looks like stem borers I would cut a branch an do a little operating let us no what u find hope its not a wormDoes anybody know what this is? what causes it? how to treat it? Unfortunately I think you guys may have diagnosed it. I went up there this morning and you could see where there may have been some entry holes at the bottom of the plants but they look like they are healed up. There is certainly a large bulge where the stalks are splitting and several branches on the affected plants are wilting. I read through a stem borer thread on here...they sound like a nightmare. Is there anything a guy can do once they are this far along?

cutem out,i cut out 21 of them in early july caughtem early plants filled in nice if the branch is wilted theres no coming back they been in there for a while cut a inch or two below bulge u will be shocked they eat there way up the stem when stem gets to small they turn an eat there way to the bottem,next yr bt at the beginning of june
