I would go with the stainless steel. I don't have any verification or reasoning behind this answer, i just feel i would use ss if it were me.

Think in terms of piping, i have yet to see a stainless steel pipe as dirty as a brass one.

that is true brass does get pretty dirty

I use only stainless steel screens in my Da Buddha. I've tried both and the steel ones stay put in the wand better because they aren't as pliable.
