spreading growth

but naw seriously, are 50 growth tips overkill? doesn’t that start to make each cola smaller? just curious. auto strains, coco, led & lst.

i dont usually count 50+ in flower so was curious how that would work. literally only count 7 - 25 and then more for higher training applied but not quite 50+ per 4 square foot space for an indoor auto with medium lighting. should the top site count match the strength lighting? 500, 1000 & 2500 ppfd?

in short, can you over lst? for example, for a 9 square feet and 2200 ppfd, id say no.

ok so i realize this is scrog but with an auto in a small space. i just found a 50+ count scrog picture example but its easily 9 sqr feet, stronger light. will get pics if i can of how it ends up since i did not see any really, as if it was better to grow taller with less, but fatter colas.

There is a chance you dont have an auto and you are just veging.or all that trening is stressing him and making the veg longer... Photos would be cool

oh its an auto alright, mid flower. pistols left and right. counting buds when i say growth tips. lst but not enough to stress plant, but enough to have hella bud sites, possibly too many for the space.

OK thanks. That's an even better grow area for comparison. Hold my ... um ... coffee.

( A little too early for beer ... )
was thinking might be ok since its a 1000 ppfd led light, known to produce medium buds anyway - only going down 6-10” from canopy.

41 tops on this 2' x 2' girl (38 on her sister - not in the picture) with room for 8 to 10 more per plant had I filled the front squares properly.

IMHO ... 50 tops for a 2 x 2 plant is not too many ...

is that hps? real fat buds haha. I like calling it “sea of LST.”

in short, its in mid flower with 10” bush and short, short legs, lolipop is not so straight forward. back breaking to find suckers so im thinking of going full untrimmed bush hehe.

That can be the solid control of defoliating/pruning vs not, what outcome will be for autos and so far I think its what made so many top sites in 30 days. str8 final container.

led shallow lighting, wonder how buds in the dark at current 10” mark will turn out. thanks for the tips, you’re great with scrogs, I originally used some of yours as examples to plan the structure.

by the way, its 50+ as in, first glance make sure not to count twice and skip over a few just to make sure. I have the stoner tendency to lose count or track of things as I go along, if I really counted I am sure its actually 60+ not counting side growth of a growth tip. there are tips I can’t even reach to count in the back corners.

edit: its 55 to 60 tops not 60 plus.

And recently nice smelling too. Mrs. Starecase claims I am harbouring skunks down here but I assured her it's just those tops. It's a sea of woven branches, parcel twine and nylon support trellis.
... is that hps? ...
It does have an HPS like aura ... but those are Timber 2VL's with the 3000K Vero 29 COB's. I started with Viparspectra blurples, upgraded to HLG RSpecs then tried the 2VL's.

Glad I did because the VL's have produced the most chubby nuggets of all three and are now my dedicated flower lights. The RSpec has been converted into the BSpec as my dedicated VEG light. The blurples are decommissioned and are currently keeping the box of RSpec boards off the floor.

I also never do graduated transplants - right from small clone pots to 5 gallon buckets.

How far down depends on the lights. This is what the VL's produce about 10" below the top bud:

Usable nuggets that will finish about the size of a grape. While the fat tops are curing, I will consume this lower down stuff once it's dry.

Oh wow ... thanks. I like SCROG's for their large yields. You can bend the branches and grow them level to the ground. You can bend the branches any direction to fill in any bare spots. Gently bend them whichever way you need to to keep them growing outwards until you get the footprint you want.

The downside - trimming large plants can be an arduous task but once that's done it's worth the effort. Since legalization in Ontario, nobody in my direct sphere has ever been left wanting.

Woah! so a quick search if correct says about 200 watts 1000 ppfd for each 4-5 square feet? just one of those was hanging over that plant? Nice! got to see a new realm of led I haven’t came across yet, Im just working with aftermarket brand with a nice map that people are slowly getting to know.

after this I am stepping up to 1700ppfd and so on but with a more recognized brand. if im correct this is pretty close setup! you just have legit lights, probably steady 1000ppfd across map haha which the canopy height of 18” sounds like a breeze to work with.

Yes ... one of those Timber 2VL's pump out 210 true watts. And I have 2 of these lights in my 2 x 4. I don't run them full out though. The lights are set to 18" above the canopy and I run each at ~960 PPFD until the final couple of weeks of flower when they go down to ~800 PPFD.

The VL's work well. I am very glad that I was able to grab a pair of them before Timber was acquired by Highgrove.
