Get some worm castings and guano, both are incredible ferts, they're organic, and they dont attract animals like blood or bone meal. For the bloom nutes, you could probably find somehing similiar and cheaper, but i say fox farm all the way!

until you have more experience, you are better off getting a good organic soil mix, i like Roots Organic, and using compost teas. put your manure and compost along with some guano, in a cloth pouch. i use about 2 cups compost, 1 cup worm casings, and 1/4 cup guano. mix well wrap it loosely in a cloth pouch, a white T-shirt works well. put the pouch into to barrel with about 15 gallons of water and a strong air pump. let it brew for about 6 hours and water your plants with it. i like to keep my barrel in the shade to keep it from over heating.

i was also thinking about just putting a few earth worms in each potter...

building a good soil is more than just mixing up some peat moss and compost, you need to add pH stabilizers and the right amount of guanos and manures. Roots is a very simple, high quality soil that will provide your plants with nutrients for a week and a half or so. look up subcool's super soil for a great mix that only needs water. a basic soil mix is for containers is 40% nitrolized sawdust or peat moss, 25% perlite, 25% vermiculite, 10% compost. per yard add 2 lbs High nitrogen guano (10-6-2), 2 1/2 lbs dolomite lime, 1 lb high phosphorous guano (3-10-1), 5 lbs oyster shell, and 1 lb iron sulfate.
