Single COB Fixtures

Yo! I did a quick search on the forums to try and find an answer to this question, but had no luck, so here goes . . .
I have been watching @Greengenes707 on YouTube for quite a while now, and in his last grow facility he had a single COB fixture hanging off to the side of his main tray, illuminating a plant or two on their own. I looked back through his videos to try and see if he mentioned what parts he used, or where he got them, but without any luck. I think that they were in a "hi-bay" sort of set up, with the vertical-finned heatsinks and hi-bay drivers, which I find to be a very appealing type of set up.

I would love to build one or two single-COB fixtures to hang from the ceiling for a couple houseplants. I live in a basement apartment, and though we have nice windows and such we don't get much light for our plants. Having a single fixture or two like this would be awesome, especially for the winter months.

Does anybody have a parts list and a good source for this stuff? Your recommendations are most welcome. If Gene were to weigh in too, I would be most grateful.

Thanks!

Ask him yourself through his website. http://www.pacificlightconcepts.com/ I'm unfamiliar with the one you speak of.

The ones you linked consist of Mean Well HBG-60-1050 drivers, MechaTronix Moduled Mega 13450-B-HBG heat sinks, HBG Connector set, BJB 47.319.2033.50 CoB holders and Citizen CLU048-1812C4 CoBs, M3x6 screws for the holder and M5x20 screws for mounting to the heat sink. Plus some thermal interface material, like Arctic Silver 5, or MX-4CDI has an exclusive on the heat sinks in the US, it appears, so finding them in stock can take some time. If you're willing to tap the holes yourself, you could buy the Mega 13450-B, which is in stock more often. You could also use self-tapping screws. Those drivers have a current adjustment but it's not convenient in that you have to partially disassemble it to do it. It's more for set and forget. For dimming, you will have to go up to the HBG-100 in the "B" version with the larger Mega 134100 heat sink. Those are what I settled with.

That's awesome, @topcat, and @HydoDan. Thanks so much for your help. I am very happy that you have introduced me to CDI.

@topcat, which setup did you go with specifically? If you are happy with the performance of your fixture with the dimming, I would be happy to try it out. At this point, I am willing to wait for the pre-tapped heatsink as well.

I built both options but I prefer the dimming capability of the HBG-100 coupled with the Mega 134100. 93W at the wall, about 84W to the CoB, with the CLU048-1818. If you're into DIY, the dimming pot will give you some fun but it's not hard. Hell, I'm a newb to this as well but study and pertinent questions to the right people will make it easy. I PM'd @ Rahz for a lot of information. He's very gracious in that respect, especially since he sells his own lamps and still provides knowledge for DIY builds. I have one of his early lamps (T4-1750) in a 2x4 space. Perfect. The HBG-100 setup with the dimmer is my answer to the Area 51 W90s that are no longer available, (I have 4 of them) but they don't have the dimmer. I have four of the HBG-100s over four plants and I'm not using all the watts.

I'm a dinosaur (old) and an outdoor grower that just in the last 2 years came back to indoor as well, to satisfy my growing habit. It satisfies me through the Winter. (FUCK powdery mildew) I grew with fluorescent shop lights 25 years ago and man, how things have changed for the better.

That said, I'm glad it's Summer. To me, outdoor growing is simpler. No need to play god with controlling of the atmosphere. Then again, I have the space and opportunity that a lot of people don't.

You'll need a small "project box", a potentiometer, a 100K resistor and if you want to do it right, a on-off toggle switch in order to run the CoB at full power. As I said, I did it, so can you.

Did I say fuck powdery mildew? I think I did. It's worth saying again.
