sexing from seedling

I was told that you can flip to 12/12 at seedling stage and males will show their sacks. Then get rid of males and go back to a veg cycle. Anyone know about this?

you can do that but I wouldn't I would just veg them for 5 weeks take clones and put them on 12/12 if any are male throw away those clones if space is a problem then I guess you could 12/12 from seed just seems like a waste of time reveg won't take long just being flowered until showing sex but it is time you could have been growing weed. I would ask why you want to do it like that in the first place?

Why can't you tell the difference without flipping 12/12?

I'm usually weeding out males at about 3 weeks from soil break, roughly 4-5 true nodes.

ive never seen a plant show pre flowers that fast without going 12/12 please explain your technic if you could help a brother out.....

The only reason I gave consideration was to get rid of accidental pollination risks.
Theres a large window from when the pods show themselves to when they open. Roughly two weeks in my experience. And almost every plant Ive ever grown from seed has displayed sex in 24 hr veg lighting. Really no reason to flip 12/12

not always the most accurate to just go by preflowers. i have seen plants that 99% would say were female in veg and then went to flower and was a male.

I like that idea, I was planning on taking clones anyway. This way I'll let the clones tell male or female.

Both male and female plants will show sex by preflowering somewhere around 3-5 weeks from sprout. Sometimes you have to look very closely to see the preflower and usually it shows at the 4th node first. None the less they will show sex under a vegging light cycle....

I know that mr. supertramp, my point is that going to 400 ppm has nothing to do with it... ive never seen a plant show in 3 weeks but all genetics are difernt maybe I havn't met that strain yet 5 weeks yea no pleblem, 3 weeks is kind of young still I wouldn't trust that I've been doing this a long time and find it very hard to believe that i havn't met that strain yet but hey I'm not here to argue. I just don't like to see fals information given out and the 400 ppm thing is b/s. I won't call the 3 week showing b/s but I do find it hard to believe consideing how many plants ive grown and how none of them showed until 5-8 weeks or switched to 12/12. either way it is hard to see and a newb would probably have trouble....

Yes the 400ppm is bunk no doubt. And its pretty rare for a plant to show sex at 21 days(auto flowers not included)but 25 days or so and I have witnessed the emergence of preflowers. Nirvanas Papaya is one of those strains that show extremely early. And is some kickass Indica that finishes early and yields great....
That being said. If you veg a plant long enough to take a decent cut from to clone and sex. Odds are it has already displayed sex by preflowering if you look close enough.

Preflowers will accurately display the sex of the plant 100% of the time.Unless the plants a herm. The situation your referring to seems to be when people try to discern female calyxes from male pods before the pistils show.

I've never had a plant not show its sex by week 4-5, sometimes week 3.. I've never been wrong about sex by judging the preflowers either, not counting hermies.. If you know what you are looking for it isn't hard. You don't have to up PPM's or throw them into 12/12.
