Hello everyone.

Im a first time grower and just need a quick peak at this pic.I'm currently starting week 3 today. I transplanted from solos to some dollar store tubs til they show their sex. Would to u consider this seedling or veg stage? Ive read so much that im a bit confused. The image of the solo cup is just 10 minutes before I transplanted as refrence.

If they are under at least 18 hours of light they are veg.

They are barely post seedling.

See my sig for some speed via passive hydroponics.

Here's what they can look like at week 3:

Yeah those really arnt the best lighting. cfls are good for seedlings but your gonna wanna use some actual light when they are bigger. rule of thumb is around 75-100 watts a plant! good luck thats a start for sure! bongsmilie:bigjoint: also are they running 18/6? or 24

I'm currently on 18/6. I do have a LED running as well on the same timer right now. I have enough outlets to add another 10 more cfls. I'm planning on doing that once the get bigger. I also have some vertices type extension plugs for different light pattern setup. Btw.. I'm only planning on growing four plants. I'm not sure which are fems. I'm under the impression they are all critical Kush fem. If the other plants continue to thrive then I may keep a few more but I'll donate the rest. I'm doing this as a personal hobby. Helps me learn alot about patience as well. Lol

haha oh yes it does! is heat a problem or are you just dealing with a small space? also how much wattage on the led? i run led's as well they work great.

The LED is rated at 300w with 155w actual. My cfl are all 23w and my fixture can handle 20 cfls (500w give or take). My LED runs warm but not the unit itself, oddly the lights from this unit emit tons of heat. I tested my led in a controlled cooled environment of 65 F and my thermometer registered 85 within 5 minutes of being under the led area.
I've managed to keep my cooling in check in a 4x4x6.5 tent by making my own swamp cooler out of an 32qt ice chest (large red cooler) but it's a pain. I have to swap out the ice bottles every other day. But for the most part I'm finally enjoying my first ever grow. My wife had been nagging me for years to quit buying and start growing for myself... so I finally did.

That looks awesome. I want to try this at some point once my mone isn't funny. What method of grow is this? Do you find it easier than dabbling with soil? What would u say it would cost to grow 4 plants using this method?

Passive hydroponics, drain to waste hydro, and Hempy is what it's called. I love it.

Just read the tutorial, and check out "World of Hempy".

Awesome... thanks for the info. Being a cost reduction analyst by trade, I always look for a more cost effective yet high yield producing ways of doing things. Lol
I highly recommended Hydroton/clay balls as the medium (it's reuseable). People complicate things by using coconut fiber, but that's my opinion.

yeah id honestly just use a small ac then. for a space like that it wouldnt be to bad. and if yo uget one that runs off of temp then that would save you electricity because it turns off when it gets to the right temp.

I was thinking about an ac unit but decided to capitalize from the heat with a diy co2 kit instead. As of now my critical Kush seems to be thriving in these conditions.

oh right i didnt think about using the co2 to control heat. are you going with the bottles that are one time use? there like 30 bucks a piece from ebay but ive done some researrch on them and from what ive read they work great but wouldnt be perfect for a situaion like yours where you need to control the heat every light cycle. let me know how the co2 goes for controlling heat i wouldnt mind taking my a/c out haha

You transplanted straight from a solo cup to those large pots and it will cost you maybe 2 weeks of time. By transplanting into a smaller intermediate pot you would have allowed the roots to reach the inside of their pot much quicker. Seedlings won't grow much aboveground until the roots reach the inside of their pot. That tells the plant that it has produced enough root matter to support the plant in that pot. After the roots reach the inside of the pot then they will kick into veg mode and you will see the inch-a-day growth that defines vegging. Transplant early and often!

Good luck, BigSteve.

Thanks for the tip bro. I'm planning to transplant in two or so weeks. I'm still in the learning process since this is my first grow and this I did not know about. I should have just gone to the 5 gallon pots right away. Next grow will be in that way.

I've got a perpetual grow going and here's what I've refined over the years to best work for my set-up. I specialize in short bushy indicas and my methods are geared towards producing plants that are as much alike as possible. It is much easier to choreograph a perp' if the plants all look and act alike. So mostly I use clones I've generated from my older ladies.

My clones root in 10-12 days and I leave them in the dome an extra day or 2 to increase root matter. As clones they were rooted in 8 oz. Styrofoam cups. I've found that Styrofoam somehow makes it easier for the new roots to grow along the inside of the cup. The day the rooted clone goes into dirt is day 1 for me. They go into 12 oz. solo cups and stay there at 24/0 until the seedling is 150-200% as tall as the solo cup. Then I transplant into a 7-inch square berry pot and they veg in that until they are around 150% as tall as the 7-inch pot. With a week or 2 left to veg they get TP'd into their final pot - a 3-gallon pot. Clones take from 4-5 weeks to veg with seedlings a week or 10 days longer. At 6 weeks flowering I check the plant every day for bud stickiness and density. Most of my plants are harvested between 7 and 8 weeks at 12/12.

Again, these timelines are what works for me. Don't expect to plant a batch of autos and sativas and expect to equate my times.

Good luck, BigSteve.
