Pre Charge Coco Coir?

Hello mates.

New to Coco Coir, but not new to other growing systems.

Anyways, just aquired the final shipment of my goods for my small 3 x 3 personal grow.

Will be using H&G Coco with Dyna Grow Silica and GH CaliMagic if needed.
Now as for Charging the coco? Is that needed/
I am starting from seed, a few autos in 3 gal smarts and a few Photos to veg out for mothers.

Just wondering on the pre charge thing as opposed to feeding cal mag?
Any help would be great as I'am doing my usual germination in a few days.

Using Biotanicare Coco 5kg Brick if that helps any.

I'm about to start my first grow in Coco, I am curious about the specifics of this too. I'm using the 5kg GH brick of "Cocotek" and mostly growing tomatoes and chilis, but I have one cannabis plant in there.
I have a few choices of ferts, I think I might run Jack's Classic and Bloom Booster and Cal/Mag+.
Thought about Jack's Hydro FeEd but I haven't sprung for it yet. I might just run Fox Farms Grow Big and Tiger Bloom again, with Cal/Mag.

Planning on a final ppm of about 400 @ 6.0pH for the charging, but I really don't know what the fuck I'm doing, just winging it sorta.

I just sprouted a seed in coco coir wanted to see what its all about i just used a brick of coco coir and hydroton for cal mag im using epsom salt and nutes is the 3 part ph perfect from advanced nutes along with their voodoo juice and overdrive as well as terpinator i just soaked the coco in ph water and let it sit for a while more info on coco would be sweet

CaliMagic by GH is better than CalMag+ I can tell you that.
Jacks is really good for sure.
Stick around and we will both find out.

Main concern about the charge is cal mag def later on.
Whether or not it is better to charge the Coco or to feed Cal mag at a low dosage using Coco Specific nutrients as I do.
If your not using Coco specific Im sure charging is a must, but with using Coco Specific I am not so sure.
I know several growers over at IC use 3ml per 5 gal of water so around 0.6 ml per gal with Coco specific nutrients.
Mainly wondering whether or not to charge or not with Coco specific.
Also 400PPM of Cal mag to start seedlings is way too much I can say that for sure.
I start my seedlings on a 200PPM feeding around 2 weeks when first true leaves as they have enough food until then.
Also add CalMag when using my hydro setup.
400 is alot of Cal Mag.
Anyways, stick around and we shall find out.

I would charge. I seem to use less cal-mag overall that way. You don't have to charge with certain coco's, but why not?

I' am not a big fan of the " why not", I prefer to know why i am using extra nutrients and if I need to use them at all.
I will likely be charging the Coco with CalMag, but wanted some experience as I am using Coco Specific Nutrients. Thanks

Well I can just tell you what I was told, and can only hope it helps. Coco holds onto water and nutrients pretty well, and in doing so creates a ph buffer within itself. By charging you are helping fight against the natural level of K. Because of the levels of potassium found in coco it seems to hold onto salts better so flushing once every two weeks can help.Coco has a very low cation, in case you didn’t know. Because of these factors, the buffer in coco can be hard to break. I was told by my mentor to use 300-400ppm/0.5-0.6ec in which half would be cal/mag. This would help ensure proper ph balance going in and coming out of the coco. Also because of the higher levels of potassium you will see some battles between balancing the nutrients.

When I said 400ppm I meant including existing hardness and some Jack's with established seedlings, not 400ppm of straight Cal/Mag+ on little babies, just to clarify.
I bought the all in one Jack's Professional 16-4-17 Hydro FeEd tonight, I am excited to try it. It has all the things. I am going to run it and add some Jack's Blossom Booster in flower. I have thought about that combination for a while now, so that's what I am going to do.
I have never seen anyone run the Hydro FeEd for cannabis, but other JR Peter's products are well loved, it seems. I am somewhat convinced that many Cannabis growers push the P too hard and cut the N too much in flower, so I am going to play with that idea a bit.

ok if you plan to start seeds in coco then do not pre charge the medium if you are putting in clones that's ok. but starting seeds you shouldn't feed them for like the first two weeks especially auto's that can burn and stunt if not kill them just give ph correct water and you will be all good.

yes you need to charge the coco....start seedlings at 200ppm and move up to 300 in 7-10 days strain dependent (pure sativas).

expain block in water 2ml cal mag per gal drain ready to go, done it many many times 10~15 gals per block

Would you mind defining your criteria for "better" in this case? I've never looked at CaliMagic, I'm merely asking what you meant and interested in how you arrived at your position on it. Thanks bongsmilie

I've read, and was recently told, that Calcium Nitrate is a good choice, a dude I was talking to says 50/50 Cal-Mag+ and Ca(NO3)2 is the way to go with Coco charging, something something double charged cation exchange something.

With coco do you really need to check ppm? I just been using a ph meter and def dont need to spend more money

From What I know and have used.
I have used both.
CaliMagic seems to work better always for some reason, also have herd this from other growers.
I cannot confirm this scientifically though.
Take it for what its worth.

I am well aware of my nutrient schedule. Not new to growing.
Just new to Coco Coir.
I start a 200PPM then work my way up to 400 PPM and over time up to 600PPM.
Have never seen a need to go over 600PPM in Veg.
Anyways, thanks.
Still not answered my question in regards to coco specific nutrients

I use Coco Specific Nutrients, but very good insight on that.
So your saying 200PPM charge of Cal Mag in Coco.
Understood and will test this.
