PH problem or deficiency

Hello all growers,

First : happy 2012 growing season !!!

I'am growing greenhouse seeds mix.
So far 4 off 5 survive , the white widow didn't shoot :-(
So left with :

AMS

train wreck

white rhino

white rino.jpg

Now the Problem:
On the 4 plants yellow tips on the new top growth, but on the train wreck also yellow spots between leave vanes of new big leaves. Also side branches are affected . The leaves of this plant are also curling downwards ....

Ik was feeding 1/2 strength off nutes and ph 6.1 when things started. Checked runoff ph yesterday and was around 5,9 !
So I flushed them with ph'd tap water (0,5EC , 6.5ph)
The last bit off runoff had 6.4 ph.
Now have to wait a few day's to see result and than hope there is improvement in the new growth .

I'am thinking it's an Mg deficiency , because I don't see any brown/dry tips suggesting nuteburn . And mg is blocked at ph bellow 6.5!?

trainwreck2.jpg

Problem is when using google is that" yellow leaf tips = over feeding "
But I'd started with 1/4 nutes after 2,5 a3 weeks as the Plagron grow mix contains nutes for 3 weeks. So that's not alot I think and at the start only ones every 2 waterings.

If the result is good after the flush has dried out I'am planning to continue whit 1/2 strength nutes and this with ph 6,5.

I hope it's going to work!
All info and help is very much appreciated!

So here a question list ( from a other site) that I filled in that could be interesting :

1. Are you growing from seed or clones?
Seeds
2. How old are your plants?
30days
3. How tall are your plants?
+/- 35 cm. (14in)
4. What size containers are they planted in?
4 l (1gal)
5. What is your soil mix?
Plagron grow mix
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use?
Every 2 to 3 days and use ph'd tap water
7. What is the pH of your water?
At the moment 6.5 but started at 6.1
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio?
Plagron starter kit "the terra concept" grow NPK 6,2,7
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything?
Sometimes hy-pro spray mix , otherwise ph'd tap water
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights")
Started 2x150 MH. And now 400MH
11. How close are your lights to the plants?
50 cm ( 20 in)
12. What size is your grow space in square feet?
1 m2 (11 sq ft)
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space?
Day 25-27 (77-80F) night 20-21 ( 68-70F) humidity 60-70%
14. What is the pH of the soil?
Last runoff was 6,4
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
Nope
16. How much experience do you have growing?
3th grow

Thx!

Hi mate,

I can't see your pictures, but yellow tips and curling down leaves sounds like over fertilization. When flushing, don't ph your water, because whatever you are trying to flush out, your plant is taking it back up when you're using ph'd water. The idea is to use normal water to flush out the nutrients, and your plant can't take them back up because you're locking the nutes out as your ph is to high.

Definitely looks like you have a little tip burn, but they don't look to bad. Just keep[ an eye on it mate, i wouldn't be over concerned at the moment.

How long as it been since you potted up?

The Ladies are in these pots for about 2 weeks now. And where before in small pots from germination on.
planning to go to final 12l (3gal) pot next weekend and the the flowering....:-P

Maybe you fed them a bit soon after potting up, just give them a little water until you pot up again. Shouldn't get much worse mate. Good luck with everything.

Hi,

Until yesterday all went fine with the ladies, but then the White Rino shows some brown spot between the leave vanes and on the edges of the new grown top leaves.
Just giving them Ph'ed tap water Ph 6.5 and EC +/- 0.5. and are Flowering for 2,5 Weeks now. Also re potting at same time.
The only thing I did't was changed my MH bulb With a HPS bulb.

What could it be?

I had a very similiar looking problem just a few weeks ago......mine was the ph was out due to cal/mag deficiency...im sure youve checked on this but those markings are the same and it cleared mine up...also some sulphur n boron may help,,if you have for quick uptake.
hope its food for thought..cheers bro...........B.

they are just hungry , thats all. your worryin about the ph too much. the ph is determined by the soil and is very hard to change without way overdoing it.
just trust your dirt an worry about there diet. you cant affect the ph of dirt in 30 days no matter what your feedin with. (unless of course you way over do it.)

Ok thx,
It's watering time tonight and i will start with 1/2 strength of the plagron Bloom nutes for the withe Rino. Looks like its a heavier feeder anyway than the other three :-)

Just that I'am a bit scared to get nuteburn as I always get yellow leave tips :-(

they look very good , just a lil bit of pale green , that shows they are a lil low on N. give them a dose or two of veg food to get the N where it needs to be. then go back to your regular diet.

im luving ur rhino , if you think ur,s have problems then you should see mine , im thinking does the switch from mh to hps have anything to do with it as my rhino,s went iffy when i went from mh to a mh hps dual spec light , have you changed the high of the light when going from mh 2 hps hope everything goes ok 4 you but from what i can see she looks like a fine young lady :)

no greenlip the spectrum change will not hurt the girls at all. specially with a dual spec bulb. i always recommend a "full spectrum" for all cycles of growing. either way it wont hurt your plant. you can use hps or mh all the way till the end or you could even do it opposite running hps for veg an mh for flower. (it wont be as effective but wont "hurt" them)

your problem has something to do with aeration and or nutrition. (you cant really go wrong with those two things dialed in)

also there is a very slight chance that your girls dont like the extra lumens that the hps puts off. if they are stressed in any way the extra light will hurt more then it will help. ("bleaching" of the leaves ect..)
