Have the people claiming anything other than 50-50 actually written down when they germinated seeds and whether it turned out male or female then counted them? My bet: pulling numbers out of their ass based on their feelings.

i have a pretty decent memory, i don't need to write things like that down unless i want to recall very specific numbers. maybe if you pulled your head out of your ass, you could find a more convenient place to keep your own memory.

I don't know. I have to go add it all up. Last I counted was well over 3000. That's since I started keeping a log. I also have a good memory for numbers.
Have you kept track and counted or you just talking out your ass?
There isn't a need for 50% males.

I've often wondered how much effect the environment would have on male/female ratios.
Would you say, that perhaps a stressed plant or unhealthy one, might produce more males, or females?

The health of the pollen donor and the flowering female before/during/after pollination ( when sex is determined) affects the health of the resulting offspring as in other life forms. I just dont know which conditions affect which outcome, and betting a perfect health produces an even mix of sexes while ill health/conditions are responsible for packs of males/duds we may see from breeders.
There may be no better(as in how do I make more fems) technique or outcome than an even mix using healthy plants/conditions.
Sometimes I allow one top bud to stay on the plant and mature longer after the remainder is harvested. Most often eventually the bud will show male sex part looking like a yellow banana or two. I collect pollen from them and use to pollinate chosen girls. the seeds I make this way have always made female plants with no confusion.

I'm just curious, because I'm wanting to start breeding (well, more just pollinating really) To get my own seeds. And I wasn't even sure if the sex of a plant was determined in the seed itself, or if there is a genetic 'switch' that tells the growing plant to become a male/female.

chromos are assembled before pollination even, when sex is determined.
those late flower expressions arent hermies, fyi, they dont produce confused plants unless donor was confused.
when you hermie a plant it makes hanging balls, pollen from these has always been more hermie producing seeds for me , a waste of time

I'm wanting to invest in some Bodhi genetics, and since they're going to be regular seeds (and expensive for my wallet) I figure I might as well try breeding with them too.

The full process to making proper fem seed is a long one. You have to start a bunch of seed and grow them out until you can sex and cull the males. Once you have all female plants you clone them start flowering but alternate flowering and vegging light cycles every two weeks. This will force the plants with the ability to turn hermaphrodite to show so you can cull them. Once you've isolated the plants that don't have the natural ability to turn hermaphrodite you can make fem seed that will be 100% female.

no, this is not the way to make seeds. alternating light cycles? a bunch of seeds to start? forced hermaphorodism?
this does not produce female seeds but certainly fills the seedbanks up with more hermies.
this is the way baby growers did it 40 years ago, we smarter now.

Read it again. I said that's how the hermaphrodites are identified so they can be culled leaving only the female plants that don't have the genetic ability to become hermaphrodites so that the seeds that are produced won't have that ability either.
After that full process you're left with the female plants that don't have Y chromosomes to pass on. That's when you move on to the simple process of selfing a plant to actually produce seed.

still incorrect sir. you cant see chromosomes in plants right? so you have a room full of females that didnt hermie, now what? how wil you guarantee fem seeds from female plants? just because a plant doesnt hermie does not mean it will produce fem seeds. this is like a blast from the past man, like 1990 overgro shit. try a newer grow bible, red lights dont make seeds trun fem either so dont go there.
all marijuana plants have the genetic ability to express both sexes.

If all plants have the ability to be male or female then feminizing wouldn't work. I'm only repeating what I read from an article that was detailing the process from seed producers themselves and explaining why some feminized seed producers crank out consistent batches of hermaphrodite seeds.
As far as red light potentially increasing the number of males there are a number of things that have been found to do exactly that and the findings from the research of some of the best known breeders have been published on it more than once.
