Peltier dehumidification technology

Okay, I'm growing my own because I CAN'T afford to buy the stuff, thus I can't afford a massive dehumidifier. 1st time grower.

Made my own tent using PCV and a polyester tent my wife made. NO light gets through. Inside has some silver reflective material I got from the hardware store. 2 6" diameter holes in the bottom that can be closed with a draw string just like the real tents and a 2" hole near the top in the back.

Needless to say, I'm nearing the flowering stage, 85% RH and around 80 degrees. 65K florescent light, 4 LED grow lights. We live in the valley in California so outside humidity is generally 15%. Room is air conditioned.

1. Can I lower my temp with another small fan exhausting from near the top?
- It's exhausted now, using a 4" duct boost fan I had laying around. 80 CFM. From the bottom.
- I "think" more air flow may cause more evaporation.
2. Can I dehumidify with Peltier tech?
- I'm looking at something like the eva-dry EDV2200. 20.5 oz/day at 86 degrees and 80% humidity
- Only it won't use a hose for emptying so I don't have to dump the res each time.
3. Is 20 oz enough?
4. If you've been successful with Peltier tech., please tell me your make and model.
5. What else can I use?
- NO, I'm not going to house an external dehumidifier.

Got any pics or drawings at all of this set up???

I am just trying to wrap my head around 15% RH air outside and 85% inside.

The question is, does Peltier technology work?
How much air flow without increasing evaporation?

I would spend the money on a higher CFM exhaust fan. Air should flow in from the bottom of the tent and out through the top. This should stabilize your RH and allow your air conditioner to remove the moisture.

I'll give that a try. I'm looking down the road.

yes peltier works, but probably not the way you want to use it. most de-humidifiers are peltier based heat exchangers that just capture and condensate water.
get one for 30 bucks and use proper ventilation and you should be able to get it to below 70%. especially if there is only 15% outside. just open the door for a few minutes and it should be equally dry in there...

i live in a small house, it works ok for my space. i would imagine it would work for the average size grow room or tent.
its not going to keep a large house dry, but it will keep about a 20x20 area pretty dry, takes about 2 days to completely fill the res

i agree that you need a bigger exhaust fan, that would lower your temps and your rh at the same time, you can get a 4 inch 190 cfm inline fan for about 50 bucks if you shop around, they're well worth the price. the fan you have that says 80cfm, thats if its used as a booster fan in conjunction with an inline fan, in reality its probably more like 50 cfm on its own,

I added an oscillating fan and a 6" 400 CFM fan. Seems to be doing fine.

I think my RH test unit may be off. I always went off of weather.com to see what the humidity is outside. I'd setup the unit in the garage and get 40%. (Not in the tent) Decided to check in the house. 35%. Decided to check outside. 32%. Weather.com says 22. Not sure how, but the smoke from the fires is pushing cooler but humid air down the valley. We can see the smoke in the sky!

I'm inclined to believe weather.com. Ordering a better unit.

Suggestions? Affordable?

are you in southern central valley or up north?? i think with better air exchange .. do you a swamp cooler or a/c unit to cool the home?. thats a big swing in RH.. and when you add a dehumidifier. in that tent, your gonna add a bunch of heat in the space.. and 80 cfm sounds like a small fart fan . thats not moving enough air period ..6 in. inline sounds like a better exhaust are you in a hydro system? pots ?. if you cant get that down to under 50% RH in bloom . watch out for PM. to bud rot.. i had a 4x4 homemade tent at one time. and when lights went on a had to keep door open with carbon filter with 6 in. in-line connected. and vented thru. my 1000 watt. and out the bathroom window. which kept the rh down to 40%. when lights off i had to run the de-humid and inline to keep it at 52%. and was constantly fighting PM the whole 8 weeks in bloom my temps stayed 72 ish lights off and 85ish lights on. i feel it messed up my yields. cuz of my set-up..only 22. oz. and the bigger colas had some rot. which i just tossed the rotted shit and made some decent wax ....i think i could have got a better crop if i had a 400 or 600 watt . .. it was a good learning lesson . dont make your own tent.... lol i hope the best for your grow. . get your flower room to 40% RH or less and temp. 75 lights on . and you will be fine,. not the best pic but my set up. in the 4x4 homemade closet grow. and plants with the PM

if your rh meter is electronic im not sure how to adjust those, but you can check any rh meter by putting it in a closed container with a small container of damp(not drenched) salt. after a couple of hours it should say 75% and stay there till you take it out.

Sure. He tells me this AFTER I buy an expensive one.

New one's here. 4:15 pm weather.com says it's 89 degrees and 27% RH. Mine says 86 degrees and 31% humidity.

Tent says 38% RH and 81 degrees. Still a little warm, but my wife's gonna add another 8" hole that I can vent out of with another fan and I think I'll be good.
