Ordered My First Spores!

So me and my buddy decided to grow some mushies and we recently started looking into it. Well i watched a load if videos and read as much as i could for the moment lol and i feel comfortable enough to start growin! Me and my buddy split an order of 4 random syringes (cheap deal for 4 starines of cubes). So they should b n some time next week and hopefully ill have the rest of the things i need to get growin. Super excited lol iv never had mushrooms b4 so to grow some and test my own product would b really cool. I think it would add to the whole experiance. Ill keep u guys posted as it comes along! Feel free to ask any questions or leave any tips! Thanks

What substrate you growing. In and are you gonna use a pressure cooker for sanitation I feel like its not nessery I have never grown but am going to very soon

doin the BRF tek from the "lets grow mushrooms" videos. no pressure cooker just gonna take extra messures to b sanitary. i just need to make the brown rice flour and get the verm and ill b ready to go. man im so excited lol i wonder what strains im gonna get

Good luck on the grow! Will be watching.. Might I recommend the Alcabenzi strain? I've heard it's one of the most visual strains from a trusted friend. He gave me a print of it, going to make a LC with it soon enough.

Good Luck. I did the same as you my first time

No pressure cooker. I just used a good pot with a nice lid on it. And sprayed down my apartment kitchen like 3 times with bleach. Everything the floor, tiles, cabinet, counter, stove, dish washer, fridge. etc...

Also i cleaned myself up like 3 times using iso alcohol used a dust mask, long sleeve shirt. My first failure was due to to many holes in my SGFC. Make sure you do that as good as you can! Good luck i hope you post pics

To blackhash... actually with me not knowing that particular strain, on every site iv seen that has it its stood out to me then i read the name and i kinda surprised every time. Idk what it is about them.but i do wanna grow them. I think for my next grow ill do those and another strain i have n mind. Kinda blows my mind u asked about those to lol. And to timeismoney thats what i plan on doin lol wash EVERYTHING and steralize EVERYTHING lol. Im gettin surgical with this lol i really wanna have a good grow so keepin it clean sounds like the biggest part (well up till birthing)

While I am sure everyone will appreciate your cleaning everything, it really isn't necessary, almost all contamination will come either from you and your hand and breath, or from the air. You can clean the air with a hepa filter - or you can precipitate all particles falling from it with antiseptic spray and ensure that there is no air movement when you to your sterile work.

I've done at least 200 brf jars over the past year and out of that had less than 10 contam. Most I attribute to insufficient sterilization of the jars based on the fact that the growth was in random places and not at the injection sites. I always wear latex gloves that are wiped down with alcohol and wear heavy dust mask. Usually, but not every time, I try to get a shower beforehand and put clean cloths on. I like to get all my gear together ahead of time and when I was first starting out not used to the procedure, I would plan my movements out ahead of time to make the whole thing go as quickly and smoothly as possible. Some guys use a glovebox, but I got rid of mine awhile ago as I didn't really find it necessary in my situation.

good info sonar. i was actually wondering what the fail rate is but i understand it depends on the set up and ppl using it and how theyv contaminated it. 200+ jars with 10 fails isnt bad at all. that makes me feel alot more comfortable lol.

so far i have a list of the rest of what i need so ill b picking all of it up on tuesday. the only thing i need to order now is the verm and ill b set!!! so freakin excited lol. the syringes should b n about that time (lateset thursday) so by friday ill have it all started if all goes as planed. would steralizing the jars before hand b a good idea or should all the steam steralize them?

sup guys! so today is payday whichmeans... im gettin the rest of the set up!!! ill be hitting up walmart and ace hardware in a bit. im also goin to my buddys trailer today (our grow area) to clean and get everyhing set up and ready so once the spores get here the plan is that we can head right over and start. spores should b here between today and thursday. still havent found any verm yet though and that is the only problem im having. i still have one more store to check in town but it looks like im gonna have to get it online. not really a bad thing it just probably gonna take a few extra days. ill get pics up for u guys hopefully today of the set up.

Look into stock/feed/western supply stores. Hydro shops will also carry it in most cases and have it this time of year.

Specialty garden stores, you can get it at Walmart but it is expensive, you can have your hydro store order it if they don't have it. Get lots, it is the single essential.

Well it just so happens that i live n a small farming town lol and the last store i have to checkjust so happens to b a farm and feed store! U guys have givin me hope lol maybe ill get lucky!!! Let u guys know how it goes n a few hrs

Hell yeah! The last store i checked they have verm! And a big ass stock of it to lol. So i picked up just about everything i need. Got holes n the lids and covered n silicone for "self healing" inoculation points. Just waitin on the spores now and ill b ready to go.

Nice can't wait to see how this turns out for you. I don't think the silicone is really necessary with PF Tek. The dry verm layer on top serves as a contamination barrier and provides some degree of gas exchange. My worry is that your jars might colonize much slower with that silicone covering the holes. Maybe even stall completely. I suggest removing it. For extra security, you can put some micropore tape over the holes, but I never do. I just keep the foil on really loose. PF tek is hard to screw up. Just follow the tek and you'll be eating mushrooms in 4-6 weeks. :)

The jars don't need to be pre-sterilized. Just load them up with the brf mix and steam sterilize for 60-90min as per the PF Tek. Good luck and keep us posted!

props to you sonar thats a good ratio shroom growing seems to not be my specialty half always end up contaming or not germing i swear its the verm i think the grannules r to small and canndo that avatar is nuts i stared at it for like ten minutes

Another reason I like liquid culture. I had issues with one, or even two holes not germinating in the past. With liquid culture and also spore syringes I made myself, I never have that problem.

Maybe try cooking your jars longer. Do you steam sterilize? Before I bought a pressure cooker I would use a big pot. I would fill it up until the jars were sitting in about 1/2" of water.
