So I have some very bottom leaves they are tiny so small I can't tell if they are male except there are no white hairs...

I am not sure if they just never received enough light, or they are male...

In your experience do bottom branches turn male? Or do you think these hairless leaves / tiny bud are just immature?

Thanks, I cut one off, looked at it with a 30x loupe I saw a couple calyx's kind of looked round, but they were tiny so could just be that fact...

Can't really tell even with a picture, other then no white hairs..... What do you guys think?

I'm pretty new, but this doesn't make a bit of sense to me. You should see white hairs coming from the pear shaped pre-flowers, example;

If you are worried that the top half shows female but not the bottom I would not be worried at all unless it shows its a hermi during flower.

I have white hairs on the whole plant.. It's just the very bottom inner branches get less light... So I'm thinking they just didn't develop. I only let it veg for less then a month from seed... small plant

Curto: if you're lighting from the top with curly-q CFL's or other florescents that's really a pretty typical complaint. The bad thing about florescent lighting is that it doesn't penetrate far into the canopy. Next grow, you might want to consider trying 'aimed' reflectors if you have the room. It's something a guy in Northern California and I have been working on for a couple of years now. We both cut panels, covered them with reflective material and aimed them to 'recycle' the light back up to the lower shaded portions of our plants. I used stiff sheets of plastic. He used cardboard. I used Mylar. He tried white high gloss paint and later the shiny side of aluminum foil. We both adjusted them so that the light was reflected back up to the lower parts of the plants. We were both Aerogardeners with your same problem and this is how we solved it. We got buds all the way down to the planting deck. From the photos he sent me I think the Mylar worked better. I hope this helps. HSA

Ya i wouldny worry to much... Your next grow i would deff sugest you get a 400w-600w (HID) HPS light for flowering... I used to use CFL for my veg and then use my 600w HPS for flowering but i eventually got a MH light as well... You can get 400w hps for like 180.00$ its kinda pricey but in the end it will be 1000% better yield and quality...

Thanks for all the info... Yeah the aimed reflectors is a good idea, also so is a HPS if I have the room... I'm using side lighting but of course I can only get so far to the plant without starting to burn leaves.. Which I try to avoid. My buddy says he cuts all the stuff at the bottom so it doesnt use up energy.. But im a month into flowering kind of scared to cut small branches near the bottom right now...

I think 4-6" of space around a plant with with walls covered in mylar work well to reflect light back to the bottom side of the plant. I have even put mylar over soil raised slightly to allow air through and there was a HUGE difference in lighting underneath. If you could somehow adjust the sides around your plant to grow and stay within those 4-6" as the plant grew you would be set IMO. :)
