New Insecticide from Spider venom peptides!

A new BIOPESTICIDE is about to launch!
I have been aware of and watching closely for over 3 years the development of an insecticide made from peptides of Australian funnel web spider venom and Snowdrop Licten (Carrier protein). It carries the same 96 - 100% effectiveness as neonicotinoids with NO toxicity to Mammals or Bees !!!
It was developed by Vestaron in Kalamzoo Mich. and is set to be released next year to the growing market (first release is going to focus on Farm and greenhouse size operations)! This pesticide works on the BIG 3 pests that effect greenhouse (and our) plants the most. Thrips - White flies and Spider mites!

The name of the product line is SPEAR. It went through 2 years of testing and is now approved by the EPA. It is HARMLESS to MAMMALS! It is made by an organic synthesis !!!!!! (YEAH BABY!)
and could very well turn the conventional "poison" insecticide products on their collective ears!

Sounds expensive, Funnel Web's aren't very big. I wonder what sort of yield one would get per dose of toxin.

First off. They are not harvesting venom from spiders. They have synthesized the gene's from the proper components (see next answer). Insert those into yeast and through fermentation, produce the end product!

Second off. They are isolating particular peptides from the over 1000 molecular peptide strings in the venom! They have isolated and identified the action of each and have only employed the one's that effect insects. From there they have employed only the peptide strings that block calcium stream absorption in targeted insects!

So then, again I say NO harm to HUMANS, Mammals, Birds, Fish or the "Bee" family of insects!

I have not found any information on use or projected costs......YET!

Now that approval has been granted. I will be calling the company this week on release dates, concentrations and costs.
I will also ask for toxicity report address locations (on the net) and check the MSDS....

This could seriously change WHAT we treat our "plant for consumption" with, in regard to pest control!
