Hey, I finally decided to join these forums after reading some of the threads on here. I've always wanted to start growing from the day I started to smoke. I've only been smoking for about less than a year, but I have the advantage of getting marijuana for free from my step dad who gets it from one of his friends who is rich, so I don't have a great knowledge of strains.

Anyways, my parents have finally given me the permission to grow some plants in my closet. I won't be able to go real expensive on my setup, but I only plan to grow about 5 plants at a time so hopefully the following will do for my lighting situation.

Code:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100626324&N=10000003+501161+10401007
I still need to get food nutrients, but we're going to Home Depot today to pick up the Flood Light and will have to look around for nutrient foods. Also, encase I'm not able to get the Flood Light, how do you think I could work with Florescent lights?

The seeds have already been drowned in clean water in a warm, dark place for 24 hours and I've planted them in three small, plastic water bottles that are cut in half. I don't have a High Humidity Dome, so I put the water bottles in a bowl type container with a plastic cover to increase humidity.

One more question, I heard that using Jiffy-7's are bad for germination, is this true or will a Jiffy-7 do the job?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

EDIT: It's been confirmed that I will not be able to use HPS or MH lights for this crop. I've already decided that I'm only growing 3 plants. How much watts do they need from Fluorescent lights? Would I be able to pass off with one 42 watt bulb? My step dad is a bit cheap and if I'm lucky I will be able to get one of these.

Code:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100583187
That definitely should be able to handle 3 plants right?

one 42w flouro would not be enough light. i recommend that you read the "how to grow marijuna" sticky then return with your questions. im growing 3 plants in a rubbermaid container and im using 7 23w flouro's and i still dont have enough light. get all the flouro's you can because you'll need them. and floodlights dont work very well because they put out the wrong color of light(dont remember the details).

Get with cool people in the construction field... electricians,.... they demo buildings that has a LOT of hps & mh lights. They have to throw them away..., For a few Oz's or bucks, ($10 or $20), they will give or get for you some high dollar shit. Fans, etc.

Well, I would I be good to go with a Lithonia Lighting Bronze High Pressure Sodium Flood? You can see details on it from the first link in my first post.

I think that's the best I could possibly do. Hopefully, when we go to Home Depot later, there will be someone who can help.

Which brings me to ask, what should we ask when wanting information about what lights will do the best as I can't just ask them, "What are you best lights to grow marijuana?", lulz.

marijuana isnt the only thing the lights are used for. if you dont know them tell them your using it as a home security light and dont wanna buy a new one.

I saw that same light at home depot. there's not much information on the box.. I've been doing a lot of reading, and I've seen recommendations of between 2,000 to 10,000 lumens per square foot for a good grow. more light is always better, but with more light usually comes more heat, so that has to be dealt with. I'm a fellow noob too. do lots of reading. there is an amazing amount of information on here. I plan on using 4 26 watt cfl's totalling 400 watts equivalent light, only for getting clones rooted. then either a MH lamp or 8 T5 fluorescent for vegging. then I'm investing in a nice 400 watt HPS for flowering, and eventually a second HPS is planned. 3 rooms. one is 16 hours light on and 8 off for vegging, clones, and mother plants, then 2 other rooms with a 12/12 light cycle alternating between them, so one room is always lit and the other dark.

good luck noob. remember, lots of reading, then post if you still have any questions.

Lulz, yeah I've been doing a lot of reading on weedsthatplease and some stuff around here. You see, I have to use my medium size closet. I don't really plan on buying Fluorescent, MH and HPS lamps. My stepdad is going to buy a 8 t5 Fluorescent lamp from an aquarium he says would sell them. I'm not sure if they'd sell HPS, but I'll try and get the HPS when they need to start flowering. As my first time, I plan on only growing the plants about 10 inches??? as I don't want to much and it will save me time.

Thanks. Once the seeds have sprouted out of the soil, I will try and take pictures. Sorry to be such a n00b, I'm generally good with computers, but how do I upload my photo to a post? Does it have to be via photobucket?

I think it does, unless you attach it as a thumbnail using the paper clip thingy.

Alright, well, for my light setup I think I'm going full CFL. I'm going to buy 2x 23 watt CFL Soft White and 1x 23 watt CFL Bright White bulb just for vegetation as I plan on vegetating the plants for a short while as this is my first grow and I'm a little impatient as this is a new thing for me. Then, come Flowering time, I'll add in a Lithonia Lighting 3 Ft. 1-Light Strip Fluorescent Fixture which are cheap. Also, where can I find a cheap fixture that will hold 3 light bulbs? Would they have them at Home Depot because the ones I saw were a bit expensive for my budget.

With CFL's if you want to go by wattage. You should have at least 50w per sq ft. With some mylar and a cool cab.....you'd be set like a jet!

:peace:

You really should check out Satmans thread!

Yeah, I'll check out your thread. I basically have a shelf in my closet, with all the stuff I need inside, that will hold the 3 plants. I plan on just setting up this Ceiling Fixture and placing 42 watt fluorescent bulbs in them.

Code:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=73831-43501-7014-10&lpage=none
From there, I'll probably add a y-socket for Flowering and put in two of the Fluorescent bulbs for flowering. Which reminds me, what are the differences between the two? It was something like 2500 and 6500.... please explain them.
