Naming your cross?

I made a cross of a Hash Passion and Red Dragon and was wondering... how do breeders come up with names?

What should I name the seeds?

Hash passion (Male) was a from a REG Pure Moroccan Indica seed.

Red Dragon (Female) was a Pakistani Kush x Brazilian Sativa FEM Seed

Breeders can name pretty much anything they like …. Most times it doesn’t have anything to do with strain … like stupid foodie ones.

If it was me ….

Hashy Red
Mo Red
Red passion
Red Bunghole ( your buddies will laugh when doing sesh )

I've only named a few out of dozens of crosses. The rest I just label them with what they are crosses of.


Durbistan = Durban + Pakistani Chitral Kush

Thaiwaiian = Thai + Hawaiian

Banger Night God = Bruce Banger + CBD God/Night Nurse

Yeah they're not flashy but neither am I.

That Thai Hawaiian sounds nice ….

Crossing two strains by pollinating a female with a male doesn’t make you a breeder. Pollen chucking at its best.

Not to be insulting, but by calling that ‘breeding’ I think you take away from people who actually work on plant genetics.

If you’re not cubing your strain, it’s not breeding. Cubing is the process of back crossing your strain with both of its parents in the attempt to isolate certain desired traits.

You could call it bag seed
Honesty in the seed game is limited

Call it “Hash Passion x Red Dragon F1s”

cause that’s what it is

Thanks, I definitely never clamed to be breeding or a breeder, just curious how they come up with names and asking a simple question.

I'm at F6 with my Durbistan. I've been working on it for years.

Sure, there are more than one way to skin a cat. Cubing is just one of the easier ways to isolate traits… But did you name your F1s?

I named it before I started but my goal was to work it from the beginning. It's turned into a long project.

I completely agree with you regarding the term breeder. I don't consider myself one. You really have to understand the science which I'm really just starting to get a grasp on. So much to learn.

mother x father ...unless you are in nth merica, like the hemp of the 1800s you can call it anything,
and in 20 years itll be so inbred just as it was in 1935, thank heavens for NYLON,

Why are you growing a male outside? Probably enough to really piss of any neighbors who happen to be growing too. I'd be mad. It's pretty inconsiderate to everyone else in the vicinity of your grow. Pollen drifts a long way.
Also, at this point, who's to say that cross hasn't been compromised by someone else doing the same thing? Keep males in their own space indoors and use a bag and brush process with tags for making your own crosses. It's the polite, accurate and responsible way to do things.

You'll get no sympathy from me. If you're worried grow your plants indoor, like everyone else.

Not sure here but many comments over my sholder could suppose that their is room for litigation here:
supposing you would loose a crop of females to this guys male pollen could one sue for compensation,
I don't mind his great great grand children supporting my trust for say 500 years? should he be a pitiful unemployed looser, but we hope not, if under 18yo one could sue the parents again... multigenerational debt like in Japan ..??

That's a little harsher than I would've I tendencies my post to be... lol. But I can see your point and have felt that type of pain from hemp growers pollen drift. And boy was I upset. Others iknow have had it happen too.
It's just better to segregate males nd bag branches, just for a person's own peace of mind. Not forgetting it's also.(or should be) a common courtesy.

As to litigation, maybe... What if it was done as and could be proven to be industrial sabotage? Jesus, please don't let the anti cannabis people think of this one.... I'd laugh but that one is way too scary, even on Halloween!
