NaCl content in kelp meal

So.. Iv posted on this and even recently.. But i kinda just started looking at other meals and seen the sodium levels were as high and even higher than the meal i have.. This is not kelp meal, its seaweed meal... And the G.A. says it has a 3.5% NaCl content... I used it once a couple yrs back and it seemed to actually help.. But i didn't want ro make a mix outa it because after i read the label and asked a fellow grower he said that 3.5 % was a fuckton of salt for a meal.. It also doesn't have the %s of nutes that kelp does.. Idk about the trace mins yet.. Im gonna try to look those up.. Im sure it has some kinda good shits in it... But im just wondering if your guys kelp meal has levels this high.. Or since its an animal feed and all.. Is this a diff kinda sodium sorta.. Idk.. It kinda sounds stupid coming out of my mouth now.. But isnt sodium chloride (NaCl) just like table salt...i thought maybe kelp meal may have just Na % or something.. The only reason im even debating in my head is because the guy that said it had way to much salt in it has always gave me super good info and is an excellent grower... I have some... A very small amount.. Of maxicrop kelp meal but it doesnt give the Na or NaCl content on the bag anywhere.. ..i also have some raw maine kelp... It is awesome stuff.. Im sorry i keep posting about this but if i can use it im def gonna.. Im going to be mixing my soil very soon so i would like to gather opinions from knowledgeable ppl on here.. I have and am continuing to do research on it but i always like asking the growers on riu for an opinion... I seem to learn much better talking directly w ppl... So any light that can be shead on my situation would be greatly appreciated on the na vs NaCl situation and the Na or NaCl content of your kelp meal... Thanks everyone

It should be simple enough to google either MaxiCrop or Thorvin for the MDSS (Material Data Safety Sheet). They have to have that info available and both are essentially the same thing, same species, harvested in the same general area, both organic....

I would also see about sourcing some MaxiCrop or Thorvin for immediate usage and mixes while you figure out just what you're going to do with your seaweed.

Just like you, I learned the hard/expensive way to carefully read the bag before plonking down the$$ and for sure before you walk out the door with it.

..im basically wanting to know if the feed grade NaCl is the same as the sodium content in lets say maxicrop kelp meal.. I did google it.. It is in the guarantee analysis.. It said is sodium % is 4.1 somethibg... Well sodium is Na.. Not NaCl... do u get what im asking.. Im not really sure if the sodium chloride will be able to be evaluated the same as the sodium content in the other meal

Well he had to order it for me.. And i paod in advance for it.. Vut i still should if lookerld at the contents or asked the ppl he called to read them off for me

Even at a high percent has it caused problems with your plants?

So, just what did you order? Kelp meal, or something else? I've only used Thorvin for the last 6 or so years because the national distributor is only a couple hundred miles from me and has the cheapest shipping for the 50# bags. Never did check on the salt content bc there has never been a problem, far from it. I get the livestock feed/supplement grade, ~$74 to my door for a 50# bag.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the Na content especially with the lack of any reported issues.

There is salt in kelp, that is why it is important to use a variety of inputs and not too much of one thing. I was trying to fix my K levels in my soil after a soil test with a shit ton of kelp and Na levels were very high afterwards. I recently invested in some greensand and potassium sulfate. I was a little low in iron and Mn, so greensand seemed to be the perfect puzzle piece. This is my compost and K needs to be 2x the recommended amount. Also, high amounts of Ca and Mg will lock out K. I'll probably cut this in half with peat to lower the Ca #'s and see if I can get a much higher amount of K this time. I think that I have been dealing with K def for a while and just didn't know what it looked like. It looks much like an iron def, which I have dealt with.

I used a small pic because it enlarges better.

The biggest problem that I had with high salt is poor germination rates and the matured plants look thirsty. It's supposed to hinder water intake.

Here is a great source for amendments, have bulk sizes too if you need it, also some cheaper brands to save you some money. Small operation ran out of an old barn basically.
