My Current Newbie Indoor Soil Grow

5x5 tent
1000w HID
FFOF / Roots Organic / Light Warrior
69-78 degrees F
40-50%
Blend of nutrients that I'm moving away from.

This session I started with three Blue Kush seeds and have seen different results in each plant.
In the pictures you will see all three plants in my garden display different characteristics and this is because I grow from seed (I also decided to grow in three different soil make ups this time around).

I experiencd light stress (moved light up as high as I can to 22-24" from closest bud sites), nutrient toxicity (at one point fed 1500ppm every 3 days to each plant that was already in FFOF), and cold have done a better job with LST (was my first time and some stems still have open wounds that they healed around).

I am thankfully free of powdery mildew (climate control and foliage sprays), black gnats (mosquito bits and Gnat Nix), and inspect for mites every day with a 60x scope but have never seen one.

In the future I plan to plant in Fox Farm Ocean Forrest cut with Light Warrior then feed with an AACT through veg/flower before finishing with molasses (still in the air with my future scheme).

Now that I am getting more serious about my personal little grow, I know that I need to learn about these plants from the inside and simply make them enjoy their life from germination to harvest...

All pictures are day 49 of flower. I am going to flush in three days with Aphrodites Extraction and Hercules Harves. Around day 62 I will put in darkness for 36-48 hours and then it's harvest time!
Drying: remove fan leaves, cut stems at stalk and hang in room at 70 degrees and 60% RH. Then into bags if the RH drops or continue to let hang if I can. 4-7 days, all depending on my climate, and then into mason jars for curing.

Very Beautiful man, I love Growing, It truly is my passion now that my children have left.

Thanks!

I wish I could say they all look great, but the one in the top right, or last close up, has always been the best phenotype that responded well to stress while displaying the best leaf and bud structure. The other two have experienced some nutrient stress and got a bit stunted. The first close up even shows how the pistils have fallen off and the calyxes have closed up with no new white pistils coming out. I've flushed and dramatically reduced nutrients, but it has not developed new pistils on top bud sites for two weeks...

I will continue posting on these girls, but they come down in the next two weeks. What I look forward to starting is a live grow journal on the forums. It will start shortly after I harvest and I will be including just about all the information I can in regard to what I'm doing and what the plants are experiencing. Later!

Good job so far !!!! Its all about the experience with each grow you will gain a better understanding of the process.

Day 53 and I love having planted our only three Blue Kush seeds and all three are displaying completely different flowering charcteristics. I hope the yellowing one (number two) holds on so I can harvest all three together.

Looks awesome. May I ask what you use for ventilation. And also if you dont mind-- What strains have you grown in the past that you recommend?

I have an 8" inline fan pulling straight from a 10x24" carbon filter that is attached to the top of the tent. It pulls air from the tent, through the enclosed lamp, and out the window. Air is pulled in through a 6" fan while a circulating fan blows over the canopies and three individual 10" fans hit the floor by each plant in order to circulate air through the undergrowth.
I will display this entire setup when I start my first grow journal next session.

Strains I remember (** our favorites):
Afghani (outdoors and it was enormous!)
**Blue Magoo (Oregon clone-only. Had PM )
The Doctor
**Green Crack
Incredible Bulk
Deep Cheese
White Widow
King Kong
**Blueberry OG
**Gorilla Glue
Skywalker
Tangy Kush
Malawi

I love growing a variety of strains because it's taught me a lot about the differences in growth patterns and how they react to different stressors. On the other hand I look forward to picking a strain and sticking with it for a few sessions to really lock it in.
If you are a new grower in soil the best advise I can give is "start with no nutrients and work your way up, always maintaining your PH". Those have been my biggest issues, aside from powdery mildew and gnats (both of which I better understand and manage very well these days).

Crossing my fingers for a little more bulk before harvest. I'll have fresh pictures next week before an extended dark period!!

Dude you got a 1000 watter in a 5x5 tent? Shit I'm glad I don't live next door to you. Your house is definitely a disaster waiting to happen. That not withstanding those are some gorgeous buds and whatever you're doing I wouldn't change a thing.

I use an electric ballast that stays cool to the touch. All of the equipment I purchased is high electrical grade with surge protectors so that my plants suffer before my house ever does (hopefully neither do). Safety was my main concern and increased my startup costs...

With proper inline fans, not the cheap ones from Home Depot (a mistake I made), you can ventilate a 5x5 space very well. The heat from the 1000w is all but exhausted out the window 5' away while fresh air is constantly supplied from the top of the tent. My range for this flower session has been roughly between 69-79 degrees, but almost always 76 with lights on and 70 with them off.

In my next full journal I intend to give a full overview of my setup and process. While I hope it will help new growers, I really hope you all will help me get a lot better at the craft. Later!

Wow those temps are legit! What brand inline do you run and whats the cfm rating?
Looking forward to your journal-- thanks again for the info.

I have covered the brand name with tape, but you want to get fans built for the size of your growing space. I got an 8" fan and put it on a dimmer so that I can adjust the pressure within the tent. With the 6" intake fan at a consistent speed, I can adjust the filter to pull air at the same speed, allowing the tent space to keep a neutral pressure nearly all the time (other appliances kicking on can change the balance).

Not much weight has been added to the top canopies, but the undergrowth has improved by about 20% over the past week. Discoloration is telling me the plants are lacking nutrients (on purpose, of course). The change is happening at different paces and one is almost completely out of nitrogen, while the other two have nitrogen and phosphorus still stuck in the fan leaves...
Over the next few days I will water with FloraNectar (sugars) at 10ml per gallon to sweeten it up a bit. Already smelling more like fruity pebbles!
I'll have more pics and final results late this week or this weekend. Happy growing!

Day 62 and the lights turn out tonight for 36-48 hours (I want a min. of 36, but then it's when I get to them that day).
Although I lost some weight in the middle of flower due to nutrient stress, I backed off in time and flushed enough to provide a decent harvest.
Today I pulled all the leaves that had over 50% damage. These leaves came off with ease and can make great food for pests or targets for mold as the plant begins to die, so removing them is a good idea IMO.
Anyway, I'll have pics of the harvest in a few days and will have final trim pics before I start my full journal (it will be a soil grow from seed germination through cure).

They are down, fan leaves have been removed, and they are hanging in the spare room.

If I wasn't so eager to jump into next session, I would let these girls go another week. If you grow Blue Kush, try going at least 70 days (I flowered for 64).

The dry room is just over 70 degrees F and 60% humidity, but the humidifier is set to 55% and the heater is set to 70. With a fan blowing gently into the air (not blowing directly onto plants).

I'll be doing a wet trim on many lower buds (using a bowl trimmer) and will then hang some in a mesh screen and some in paper sacks as I decide which method works best for me. Main colas will continue to hang and will be hand trimmed when they are ready.
