LED 120W or 600W HPS???

im thinking about getting this grow tent to start off with... http://buyagrowbox.com/xxl.html ....it has 120W LED & is saying that it is supposed to be proven to beat a 400W HPS, is this true? i also want this because it has the veg box at the top with t5 floros....but someone told me that i should go with the HPS because the LED isnt that powerful and it will be my first time grow.....heres the other grow tent with the 400W HPS option or the 600W HPS http://buyagrowbox.com/tents2.html which one should i go with it? i want something that will give me big yields....at least 1oz per plant.....& also how much am i looking to pay on electricity living in cali with a 600W HPS running 12/12???

as for electricity, every foot of baseboards in your house (if you have electric heat) uses 250W!
4 foot baseboard= 1000w!!!!
on a side note i have a blender that runs 600w :P
lets see... 10c/KWH
less then a dollar a day, or 30$ a month. in other words, not alot if you consider the cost of good ganja now (200 oz where i am)
from what i know of LED's they are still relatively "new" tech and arent as good for light penetration and cost.
i would buy a 600w air cooled so you can get the light close to the plants (12 inches) for maximum effectiveness.
have fun!

HPS for sure man. LED has gotten some good shows lately but I still think HID lights are still the way to go. I really am hoping for an except-able alternative to the HID lights but as of now there's nothing that I've seen that works as well.

Now I've never used LEDS myself, but I have used t-8's, t-12 & CFL & none of those compared to the 300 watts of HPS love I give the girls now. Yeah the heats a bit of a bitch, but its a small price to pay for the nuggets of love you get to harvest :)

Enjoy!!

alright i dont mean to sound super stupid lol but what do u mean the baseboard? let the plug outlet? i have 2 outlets in my closet...will i just be pluggin everything up in the 2 sockets or will i have to get extension cord (not really an extension) like one with more outlets, will that hold it?

sounds good...with the 600W HPS to you think ill get big yields? and when u say 200 oz...thats good and all, but how many ounces do you think i can yield with this system....plz check out this youtube vid of the system im thinking of getting....also comes with 9 3gallon soil pots http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TSqoMetfQE

So... I feel I'm one of a select few that hasn't tried out HPS, but I decided to give LEd's a try. I'm running 2x Quad Band 90watt LED's, and 1 Tri band 90 watt in a 5x5x5 tent.

Now I live at about 5,500' which slows down growth times on it's own. I started from seed back in mid November and here are a few pictures from the evolution of my plant. We started flowering a week ago, and I'm seeing good results for a female on a true Hawaiian "killas" strain that I picked up this summer.

Enjoy the plant-vo-lution. Babies (3).jpgBabies (2).jpg3 weeks (5).jpg3 weeks (12).jpg11 weeks (3).jpg11 weeks (4).jpg11 weeks (5).jpg11 weeks (2).jpg11 weeks (1).jpg

HID lights for sure, unless you have some kind of need to spend more money and produce less bud. No way to tell you what you will be able to produce given that system, too many variables and classic newb mistakes to be made. Do your homework, spend the money to set the room up CORRECTLY!, and you'll get well over a pound. Ignore heat, let humidity soar, over feed them, burn them with the lights to close, and your get 1/2 to 3/4 a pound.
