Knots in LST'd branches seem to have fatter buds: is knot formation dumb luck or a repeatable process?

I'd like to be able to make a knot in branches when I bend them. I've had it happen, but I want to make it happen consistently. Buds seem to be fatter. It might even make sense to make multiple knots along each branch. If it increases yield and doesn't cost me anything but time, I'll try it.

I've already excluded strains that were rigid and snapped easily. Additionally, silica seems to have made plants a little more LST-friendly. Knots appear to be one more thing that can give you incremental yield gains -- and they're free.

I just want to have more control over whether a knot forms where I bend a branch.

Thanks! Generally, I'm topping and LST'ing (e.g., weighing branches down, sometimes tying them down; super-cropping; and the occasional lollipop in tight spaces).

When super-cropping, it may just come down to timing (i.e., bending a branch at the right time in development, and far enough that it won't just bounce back or redirect with just a slight curve). I want the knot! So, something like go go kid suggested might work, because it would hold the super-crop bend in place. I'll have to think about it, so I can do it somewhat efficiently.

Any other suggestions are welcome -- perhaps there's a product (specialized or improvised/repurposed).

Just squiz it with your fingers and dont break the skin. You can even break the skin but thats infection prone. Once it loses balance a knot will form once she gets better. I had stems half open they heal in a month with a huge knot

Back in my day, we would pinch the branch and then use toothpicks or popsicle sticks and some medical tape to support the branch until it heals.
