Just a few opinions

:leaf: I have two 600 Digitals in my 5 X 5 , Do you think running them at 400 each is sufficient or will I sacrifice a lot of yield or density ? ( I have always run them @ 600 ) Trying to save some wattage. If Running them at 400 will be sufficient I might throw in another 400 watt MH for a better spectrum. Or just run them at 600 for better penetration ? Hey, Anybody running the Dual Arc bulbs. Would like some reviews.:leaf:

50-55 watts per square foot is where you reach the point of diminishing returns, so let's see here.

5' x 5' = 25 sq ft

25 sq ft x 55 watts/sq ft = 1375 watts is about your sweet spot in there.

keep those fuckers on full blast.

Well a single 400w light will cover between 9-12 square feet which is a 3x3-3x4 room so if you double that your looking at a 6x6-6x8.

IMHO i think you should be good bro with runnin the two 400s and if you do throw that 400w MH in that will just give you extra.

But at the same time it depends on how tall your going for and how high the light is gonna be.

I ran a single 1000w in a 5x8 with 60 plants at about a ft tall Yield was fine.

Thank you Uncle buck. Shit I'm under watted with both of them running on 600 huh ? Or do you mean above 1375 is wasted watts ?

My buddy grows in a 6x6 tent with a single 1000W and does fine like i said you should be good but if you look at it like this, Two 400s HPS = 800w + One 400w MH= 1200....... Then this Two 600w= 1200 so it really just depends on what you want todo.

anything above 1250-1375 is waste, according to what i have read on RIU. 50-55 watts per square foot is the point of oversaturation.

so 1200 sounds like it is as bright as you want to get. maybe you can get away with 800, see how it works. i'm a big fan of learning by doing.

@ Toka . Yea I figured that, but not sure if I will even run the MH . The only reason would to see if a fuller spectrum really helps. Still trying to save some $ . Won't be running that 400 MH if I run them On 600.

If 50-55 watts is Max before saturation, wonder what the minimum would be or do we go right back to the old standard of 400= 3x3 / 600=4X4 / 1000= 5X5 ? with that in mind, 800 watts in a 5x5 should be fine.

the old standard is about 38-44 watts per square foot, which sounds about right. i'm sure 800 will work just fine.

I think I'm gonna try it. If you used the low end of your first formula, 25 watts X 25sq feet = 625 watts bare minimum or under powered for a 5 x5. Your last formula puts it around 950-1100 for 25sq ft. so that would put me under powered though. Thanks guys. Right now in vegg with both of them on 400 the coverage looks good at about 2ft above the tops. When I turn them to 600 it doesn't look much brighter to the eye but I know that is not the way to judge.

Any opinions on supplemental blue or MH lighting with HPS ? Separate ballast or Dual arc bulbs ? A 600 watt dual arc bulb will burn 400 watts of HPS and 200 watts MH. In that case I would run them both on 600 watts. I just got new HPS bulbs so the dual arc thing would be for next indoor season but just wondering if the dual arc bulbs or supp MH is worth it.
