I'm going to leave my current company regardless after I've thought about it. I guess the main thing on my mind is do I tell my friends creative firm about the offer and maybe get an early interview or sign the current offer and say sorry to new company if they want to hire me...

My main problem right now is do I take a shot or smoke a bowl first?
the shot will vascularize your airways..........shot first.

do not, and i repeat, do not, tell anyone about the job, at least until you're hired.. where i worked, someone was going for an interview at another place, and told someone at work, who went and got the job the first go was going for.. omfg, was he ever pissed, lol.

That extra 4-5k you'll save is like tax free income, too.
Right. It kills me right now.
Just dont expect the other place to be different. Even if this happens you will still be making more and less commute.
Ultimately same shit. Different responsibilities, main thing it's new. I like being challenged, makes the day go by faster.
yup, more then likely the new place will be more of the same, but you'll be making more per hour, and spending less time flipping people the bird when they cut you off on the road... win win really..
Lol. True story. I had a week off from work and my wife said "you were the happiest I've ever seen you". Sad actually.
yes.......the commute, more than any factor, would sway me.
I hate it. Lead foot. More chances of getting pulled over : /
keepin' the tribe happy, will keep you happy, imo.
Right now with 2 kids under 2... I'm the last person who gets to be happy. Granted I could never do what my wifes does. But you're correct.

That sucks. It wouldn't happen at this place. 3 seperate interviews and I met with 2 VP and Directors. Drove me bat shit crazy. Good thing my bat box goes wherever I go.

I was laid off at at a place. Applied at 7 new places. 4th place offered a sign-on incentive to start the next day. Took that job. All 7 offered me a job. Quit the first one because the drive was just too damn long and started the next at $1.00/hr less. It was 6 minutes from my house. Saved 2-1/2 hours of driving time a day. That was well worth losing $8.00 a day. Saved almost that much in gas alone.

I just received a job offer with a $10,000 raise. Comparable benefits, 15 minutes from house rather than 45 minutes (save big bucks on gas and tolls), small company but industry leader - currently with Fortune 100 big business. The new company has extreme / fast growth potential.

Been with current Fortune 100 company 4 years.

Would you accept the offer?
do they know what a racist you are, or do you hide it like a coward from them?

I hear you saying you want management work but you also post about keeping the family happy so let me ask you this .

Are you prepared for what normally comes with management positions ?

More hrs spent at work & less family time ? especially with a new company you gotta make your bones all over again & it'll be quite a while before your comfortable in your new position , are you gonna be able to leave the stress of earning respect & long hours at the office & not drag work home with you ?

These are the important questions , money is just a tool but family time , personal time & stress free living are the important things in life .

Many times we think the grass is greener on the other side until we get there , then we see its the same only a different color paycheck .

I worked for a world wide construction company & after of dreaming of being head honcho with an air conditioned office i finally got it , then immediately spent the next 7 yrs of my life in every god forsaken shithole on earth , filthy bastards in africa tryin to sell me tiny ass little chickens & tugging on my damm pants , big ass flies all over the place biting the fuk outta me .

Just some food for thought bro .

Thanks man. Money is my main concern now until kids are old enough for school. Once that happens hopefully we'll have dual income. I live more stress free now but definitely more responsibility at work. Was promoted after 6 months. Gives me an avenue for technical growth.

Management I could do without but if the money was right I'd have to take it.

dude it's always who you know.. ass kissers get ahead, not good workers.
whats up puff.. long time no see(4).

not sure that is always the case. in fact i'd say that is less likely the case. personal anecdote to follow: not once have i kissed a boss' ass, and on occasion have pissed them off by voicing my opinion too loudly. but in my field, that's ok sometimes, and needed in certain situations. IBM hated that I voiced my opinion, but there were too many dumbshit wanna-be developers with slightly more seniority, so their suggestions were heard first. but as with many of those suggestions, it turned out in the end i was right, only realized months or years later. and the only reason i manage a team of developers now and i am the director of architecture is because i won "them" over with my brain, and not my lips.

any place where you get ahead by kissing ass is NOT a place i'd want to work.

Downside is I wasted 4 years busting my ass proving myself and no one gave a fuck. I really wanted to move up where I'm currently at. I got awards for my work and all but since I'm a straight shooter management hates me.

Where I'm at it's not what you know but who you know. I don't kiss ass until I get mine kissed first.
That describes 90% of workplaces. Merit means nothing anymore, I saw the most incompetent , unqualified people advance in my last company because they kissed ass like champs. One manager was hired, well they recruited him, out of college with no experience before he started with our company. 4 yrs later he was Operation manager for our whole division, never contradicted his superiors and regularly was firing people at the end of quarter, just to bring up end of quarter numbers, only to go hire temps at the begging of the next quarter. He single handedly decimated our workforce to the point we had only had 3 guys, out of 150+/-, that actually knew our manufacturing process and how to achieve the extremely high tolerances we worked to -we worked to microns in precision grinding. Because we didn't have the talent to do the manufacturing we needed, he proposed closing our division, which they did, to save the company money. If I ever see that guy on the street I'm going to shatter his jaw for destroying the lives of hundreds of people so a multi billion dollar company could bolster it's bottom line by tens of thousands of dollars...oh and so he could get his quarterly performance bonus..rant off..
