Ice bottles to cool growroom?

there are 2 types of AC units, typical air conditioning which will dry out the air, and evaporative cooling (swamp cooler) which will add moisture to the air.

in post #2 where i said use a tray of water with a fan, that is essentially an evaporative cooler. just really cheap and won't work as well as a real one.

yes an evaporative cooler will counteract a dehumidifier.

if you have humidity issues you need a real AC and not an evaporative cooler

That not really an AC AFIAK... Well, not that I've ever heard. The types of Portable AC I'm used to are like this:

Shit I never knew you can get an air con and dehumidifier in one.. I went and bought a full on dehumidifier and it's the same size as those
maybe you could exchange it for an AC?

keep in mind those portable AC units run at about 12 amps. so they sound pretty awesome until you get an electric bill. but it might be your only option.

out of curiousity, i checked the weather for durban, and the highest i see in the next 10 days is 81F 70% RH which looks just about perfect for growing weed. is it possible to open your system and do air exchange with the outside?

One trick I read about if your tent or grow space is small or contained within a small room:

Get a bunch of water bottles. Freeze them. Put them in a cheap styrofoam cooler. Get a cheap 4 inch/6 inch fan. Modify the top of the cooler so you can place the face of the fan blowing down into the cooler. Cut outlet holes for the cooled air to escape. Not sure how efficient it is, but theoretically it should work. You could wrap the frozen bottles in aluminum foil to improve efficiency. Even hook it to a thermostat (cooling thermostat) with a high voltage outlet to plug your fan in. When the temperature raises up, fan comes on and cools the space. Only downside is you’ll have to refreeze the water bottles every day or maybe even 2 times a day. Again never tried this, but I am once I get into flower and want cooler lights off temps. Hope that helped.

I often place a 3L bottle of frozen water just inside the tent at the air input. It does cool the air in the tent by a couple degrees. Not a huge amount but a couple degrease can be the difference in the middle of summer,
