Riddleme.. I have one plant under two 40w cfls each 2600lumens.. is that enough for one autoflower? I was looking into getting a hps but wanted to keep it as small as possible. But if I can get good results with my cfls I'd rather just stay with what I have.

150 =2

250 = 4

1 gallon pots

plants 2 to 3 feet tall

Have fun

if ur plants are 2 - 3 feet tall that light wont penetrate the canopy to get to the lower buds, a six hundred watt has the penatration of 2-3 ft, and u will always get better results with hid lighting, but not sayin u cant get good bud and reasonable yealds with cfls, as i can tell by your grow cfls work great but hid works even better

Not completely true

solid grow is the sum of all the parts

CHeck into LEDs. A lot of people are hating on them, but the work wonders for me. I guess it depends on where, and what you grow. I was going to get a 250 HPS for my four plants (AK-48), but the price was the same, and the claims are great that it works. I have no complaints. I vegged with MH bulbs,a nd switched to LED to flower. In one month of veg, I had HUGE 7 leafs on my plant, I switched to flowering (LEDS), and I swear my plants grew six inches within 48 hours. I have a VERY nice crop coming in the next weeks.

im one of those who hates on them but if they work for you then right on, never used one but almost everything i heard about them was bad except one thing and that wqas the heat it put off

Yeah, but I crunched the numbers, nothing is better than sunlight, next is HPS for sure. I am putting the LEDs very closely behind the HPS, but definatly not for a room...yet. Works great in the closet though!

Watt for watt, I'm a LED fan. My biggest complain is the lack of coverage of the LEDs.

Yep, I'm an HPS lover, especially the 600 watters. :cool:

well here is the deal.. I am not growing for commercial.. just for personal.. I want to be able to flower anywhere between 4-6 plants but I don't want a 600W hps. I just don't want that kind of attn and where I live it WILL get attn. If I have to I will only flower 2 plants under a 150w hps. I don't want to go bigger than a 250W and that is pushing it for me.. I know cfls dont produce the best but from what I have read and seen on here they produce quite well if you have the right bulbs..

It would be alot easier to answer if you gave us the size of the area you plan to cover, because plants can vary alot in size. The guys I've seen do the best with the CFLs are using one of those 65 watt bulbs per plant, or have the bulbs 18" or less apart. A 250 watt HPS is good for covering up to a 3' x 3' area, and a 150 would be good for about 2' x 2'. The easiest way to figure it out, it to plan to have at least 3000 lumens per square foot, which is the mimimum for decent growth/yield.

You just answered my question perfectly. thanks. I will indeed go for a 250w.
